I have been reading through many symptoms of hypoglycemia and it appears I may have it (night sweets, dizziness - note that I am not diabetic). They site also mentions that medication and strenuous exercise as possible reasons. I currently take a high blood pressure med and med for drepression. Also, I exercise every day, pretty aggressively. Also, I started increasing my protein powder regimin (sp?), one contains 1 gram of sugar and the other has none. Other than that, the only other bad carb I consume is Fiber One cereal pereiodically (1/4 cp). Just wondered if anyone else had experienced similar effects, or have any suggestions. Thanks. |

maureen, the best way to address hypoglycemic symptoms with the Zone is to closely watch you carbohydrate intake. Favorable colorful vegetables and berries will be you best bets for carbohydrates. It would not be recommended to increase your protein intake. Instead, monitor how you feel 4 hours after meals and adjust if needed (for hunger with hypoglycemic symptoms ) by dropping 1 carbohydrate block from each meal. Prior to the Zone I debilitation hypoglycemic symptoms an a daily basis (spaciness, dizziness, jittery, inability to concentrate , sick feeling in stomach, etc.) . They quickly disappeared once I found my appropriate Zone balance and stuck with it. Fifteen years later I'm still free from these symptoms as long as I stay in the Zone. Good luck to you! |

Thanks for your response. I thought Iwould supplement with the protein powder to cover my daily protein needs. I estimate I need approx. 65 grams of protein daily (5'8', 105 lb.). Is that too much protein? Thanks. |

9 blocks of Protein = 63 grams. I'll let Sue answer in more detail;however, except for rare cases, most should not have less than 11 blocks daily. or 77 grams of protein daily. |

Could the added protein cause hypoglycemia? Thanks. |

I tried the body fat calculator and it reads that I need 87.27 grams of protein. Does that sound right? Thanks for your response. |

Usually the Body Fat calculator comes up in even block amounts. 11 blocks = 77 grams 12 blocks = 84 grams 13 blocks = 91 grams If indeed it came to 87.27 that puts you between 12 and 13 blocks daily. |

Hi maureen, 12 or 13 blocks daily will be appropriate for an 87 gram daily protein requirement. |
