My wife subscribes to Prevention magazine.
Here's a little snippet from this Month's issue (July 2010),
    I felt worth sharing:
    .
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Best POWER COMBO for your Belly
    .
Stave off tummy aches by stirring some blueberries into your breakfast yogurt.
    (Low-Fat,plain, of course - JdP)
    .
The nutritious fruit boosts yogurt's natural ability to quellinflamation in your gut, Swedish researchers found. The benefits are twofold:
    .
    1. The fruit's fiber helps yogurt's "good" probiotic bacteria survive the trek through the digestive tract, where they help boost intestinal health.
    .
    2. At the same time, the probiotic bacteria helpincrease absorption of the fiber from the blueberries.

Great Info John! Thanks for sharing

I don't typically eat a lot of yogurt because I'm the only one that will eat it, so it goes bad before I can finish it all...Ha ha...I may have to pick some up tonight though while I'm at the store - between this and the Crunchy Strawberry Parfait recipe that I want to try...I'm going to need to get some yogurt sometime

what kind do you buy, if any?

I just found for the first time a no fat plain Greek yogurt by Liberte. It's so thick and rich, that it's hard to believe that it's no fat. It's much higher in protein than carbs, so I love it with some blueberries, peanut butter and a bit of stevia for sweetness.

Nice to know there are added benefits to pairing yogurt and blueberries!

I purchase Stonyfield (Organic) lo-fat plain.
Stonyfield is also a local New England Company, though their products are fairly widely distributed.

Hey John, thanks for the tip. I picked up the protein powder. I couldn't get the Jarrow, wrong store, but this will get me started. So far the taste of the shakes, blended with strawberries and the peanut butter, is not impressive. Any suggestions? I got the vanilla flavor. Also, my favorite yogurt is Chobani greek. Really light tasting, almost like whipped cream...ok fine, maybe not, but still good!

Re shakes: Personally I don't think shakes taste amazing either, but I have them mostly for their convenience. I make mine with frozen mixed berries, soy milk, protein powder, vanilla extract, stevia powder and peanut butter.

Claire, try my brownie batter smoothie. It'll change your mind about taste. The recipe's on the first page of my recipe thread in the Cooking forum here. Enjoy! A tip, the kind of protein powder you use as wall as the other ingredients you add can make a huge difference in taste, like the difference night and day.
