Fat is a problem for me. I absolutely do not like avacodo and I am severely allergic to nuts. I can have peanuts, but I get really tired of peanuts or olives at every meal. Any way I can skip the fat sometimes?

Well, you could, but you wouldn't be in the ZONE! Fats help slow down the carb process, slow down / more evenly spread out the insulin.

Mono-Fat like Olive Oil, but with more Mono-Fat and less Poly-Fat than Olive Oil, and supposedly has a higher flash point than olive oil.

Hi Rainbow24, You seem to be out of a lot of options, so you could try what I do. I use coconut oil. It's a saturated fat, but all short and medium chain fatty acids, so it doesn't need all the enzymes to be utilized, is generally well tolerated, will give you awesome skin and hair, plus boost your throid and immune system.

Better make sure you get AA:EPA ratio tests regularly White Light

Perhaps you should try taking Supplements like Salmon Oil/Fish Oil, or you could take low fat cheese, it serves as FAT as well. And its good to buy a bottle of olive oil, and you could just drizzle them on top of your food, you can't really taste them. You don't have to eat olives, i hate olives... I just try to take lots of salmon, or sardine. I'm not sure if you're allergic to FLAXSEED oil, its a good source of omega 3 as well.

I think it's fair to say the most radical (in terms of anti-USDA food pyramid radical) thing about the Zone is Sears' assertion that "fat doesn't make you fat" and its corallary "you will never lose weight unless you eat fat." Forgive me if I sound insensitive, but I have never heard of a "severe" nut allergy that doesn't include peanuts. And you'll just have to get used to olives, or their oil, if you wish to eat healthy. There are lots of fruity, estate-pressed designer olive oils out there. I have not yet failed to convert an olive oil hater to a Zoner. Either you'll learn to enjoy what you thought was a monotonous, repetitive, bland diet, or you'll live a painful life in an overweight body made sluggish with Twinkie-induced congestive heart failure. Take your pick.

Rainbow, If you have a problem with nuts, you are going to have to make adjustments. I have found that the Filippo Berio extra-virgin is almost tasteless and one of the lower cost brands. CU rated it the highest of the Ripe/Fruity flavored oils. I don't like the green olives flavor in my oil.

Hey, so I know I'm not the original poster, but since I too have a nut allergy, and legumes for that matter, I feel qualified to comments.

Anyway as has already been mentioned peanuts are actually legumes, meaning that they are more closely related to beans, peas and even soya than to other nuts such as almonds or hazelnuts. Hence why it is perfectly normal to have a tree nut allergy that does not involve peanuts and vice versa. In fact the last time I asked my Dr why so many people who were allergic to peanuts were allergic to other nuts she looked at me blankly and said, "that's one of the ridiculously many things we don't know about food allergies".

    David,
I think that the reason why people are allergic to peanuts AND other nuts is because they are all processed in the same plant, and there is cross-contamination.
