    Hi All and happy Sunday!

Need some help feeling right about how I am putting together Zonefast meals. We are to have 8 servings of veg, 2 fruit, 1 legume- hummis : ), and an optional dairy. the Zonefast items are perfectly balanced so when I add these items shoud I be balancing them?

For example- last night I made a yummy pizza w/ 2 servings of veg on top. Should I have added protein to balance the vegtables? I had dairy @ breakfast

When I have granola with a half cup yogart and half serving fruit do I need to add a little protein to balance the fruit?

Seems like it's possable the impact of these additions is not significate so no changes needed but not sure. Everyone has been so helpful that I knew this was the place to ask : )

    Hi shanda,

No, it's not necessary to think about the balance when putting together ZoneFast meals as long as you stick with the guidelines on the Grocery additions page. You're right that the carbohydrates will not significantly change the balance. If you were to compare the suggested Zone Fast veggie serving sizes to those in a classic Zone meal you'd notice that the ZoneFast portions represent a fraction of the veggies that would be eaten in a classic Zone meal. Some individuals who are extremely sensitive to carbohydrate may notice early hunger, and that happens, it can easily be resolved by cutting back on they types of amounts of carbohydrate eaten in the meal which resulted in hunger. I’ve been in the Zone for 15 years and have learned I am a person who requires less carbohydrate in my classic Zone meals in order to stay in the Zone. I do great with ZoneFast meals with the exception of those containing certain legumes. I simply avoid those legumes that don't work for me, or use very small portions of them, and it's just fine. In fact, I’m doing so good that I've lost another 17 pounds since beginning the Zone fast 1-2-3 program 6 months ago. This program has really brought my Zone results to another level.

Also, note that you are not required to eat all 8 servings of veggies daily, but rather "Up to 8 servings per day"; refer to the Grocery additions page here: http://www.zonediet.com/GroceryAddi...fault.aspx

Your pizza sounded just fine. If you’re not adding cheese to a pizza and want some cheese flavor, you can sprinkle it with a little grated parmesan cheese. I try to limit it to no more than a couple teaspoons on a whole pizza. We also like to drizzle a little Zone Extra Virgin Olive Oil on our Zone pizzas after they come out to the oven.

I don't add extra protein to Zone granola, fruit and yogurt meals, and I don't measure the amount of berries I add. I'll simply throw in a handful.

    Good luck!
