Can I get enough GLA with eating a bit of oatmeal now and then or do I need to take something? Is there another company where I can find it in supplement form besides the Eico RX from the Zone because it is pricey? I am not sure if I need to add GLA to my diet but if I figure out that I do, I would like to know what my options are. Thanks!

    Hi kimberly,

Dr. Sears doesn't recommended taking GLA supplements because most people need only very small amounts of GLA, just a small fraction of what is in the typical smallest GLA supplements. You can use the Eicosanoid Status Report to determine if you need more GLA. If you find you do need more, you can get it from either steel cut oats or Eico Rx.

You'll find a link to the Eicosanoid Status Report here: http://www.drsears.com/Resources/ta...fault.aspx

Kimberly, Steel cut oats are a great way to get your GLA. GLA supplements are made from evening primrose oil and borage seed oils and contain too much to supplement with. If you have The Anti-Inflammation Zone chapter 12 talks all about GLA and how it can make powerful anti-inflammatory eicosanoids, but it also has the potential to produce equally power pro-inflammatory eicosanoids. High levels of insulin activates an enzyme which increases AA so diet is huge.
