Anyone tried these? Their site says thay they're the only bars on store shelves that have Dr. Sears approval. From what I read, it's Dr. Sears' recipe. Apparently Zone Perfect bars used to be this recipe, he sold the name to some other company and the recipe to Hersheys.

Anyway, I think the nutritional value looks right and their bar graph shows that the glycemic load is lower than the Zone Perfect bars.

Darrel, are you sure those Hershey Zone bars are still available? I had tried them a couple times years back.

They're still available through the Hershey's site and they list a bunch of retailers so I'm assuming they are. I haven't actually laid eyes on them on store shelves though.

I just got off the phone with Hersheys, they don't make the Smartzone bars anymore. Are there any other alternatives to the Official bars from Dr. Sears? They're WAY too expensive. I know the Zone Perfect bars aren't approved.

I sent an e-mail to Hershey, and despite the website being active and the Buy On-line link - they are no longer available.

I've read they're not formulated to control insulin release as well as the officially endorsed bars. But I'm wondering, could this be a your mileage may vary situation? Could I introduce like Zone Perfect or other 40-30-30 bars such as the Balance Bar and as long as it holds me in the zone, I could use them every once in a while?

They do not control insulin are not formulated with lower glycemic index as Dr. Sears bars are.
However, I, myself, have used them in a pinch. Do not work quite as well as Dr. sears bars, but hold enough to use when necessary. (Dr. Sears bars do not hold me as well as others, but do hold slightly better than Balance or Zone Perfect.) I preferred Balance over Zone Perfect, but they seem to be getting harder and harder to find now a days.

I accidentally discovered I was still able to post here in the interim when I happened to come across an older post of mine when doing a google search. I clicked on the link to the posts and it brought me to the forums. I tried a test post out if curiosity, and it worked.

    Darrel,

I checked out the link you provided. Those bars are very low in insulin stimulating carbohydrate, 4 grams per bar (that's total carbohydrate minus total fiber). You could consider it a 3 block meal if you ate a significant amount (2.5 to 3 blocks) of a good Zone carbohydrate with it.
