A belated Happy Anniversary to you and you wife John! Hope it was a great day for you both. :-)

(When your anniversary ticker began months ago, I mistakenly though your anniversary must be been on Valentine's Day, and now I see I missed it.)

OH, yes--I missed it too! I was thinking about it on Friday, wanted to post it on Sunday, but obviously I got sidetracked.

    Happy belated anniversary!

    Thank You, Cran!
    .
    24 years!
Among other things, sent the lovely bride of my life,
    24 roses ...
    .
We also went out to dinner, and had a very nice mostly zoned, all balanced dinner. <GRIN> - Of course, had to have desert.
But in place of starchy side, asked for and received additional string beans and asparagus - enough to make for about 2 blocks of good carbs.

    That sounds really nice!

Did you go to dinner at a special place? What was dessert?

Congratulations to you and your wife, John! Oh, to be happily married and so in love for so long -- I'm truly envious (in the best possible way!)

Yes, inquiring minds want to know -- what decadence did you splurge on for dessert :-) ???

Unfortunately, for a higher end restaurant, their deserts were very disappointing!
I do not like any cake or ice cream that is chocolate; though they didn't have but one chocolate desert for my wife to choose, and she didn't! They had no cheesecake, my favorite, so we both ordered vanilla ice cream deserts, very unimaginative desert choices.
    .
Hers was a supposed ice cream crepe, and all it was was some french vanilla ice cream wrapped in a crepe and a little whipped cream. Mine was an Oreo ball sundae basically a ball of ice cream wrapped in a thin oreo cookie shell and some whipped cream (I always ask them to forgo the fudge.) (We ended up switching.) And I didn't eat the crepe, too many carbs.
    .
Good thing is the meal was good, and with a a great chice of veggies, I managed to keep the meal mostly balanced and close to being zoned.
    .
However, and she does not know it yet, I will be taking her to another upscale restaurant in our town, just for desert - for Valentines Day. They have the best deserts, and are often featured in the NH Magazine's annual contest as placing between first and third each year for their desert submittals.
    .
This is the type of restaurant for which we were given a $100.00 gift certificate by a good friend for Christmas, the first year we moved to New England from Charlotte, North Carolina. The type of place where you walk in and see 15 waiters for 14 tables. Where the $100.00 gift certificate barely touched appetizers and 1/2 caraf of wine.
    .
They have the best deserts, and the desert price is not too extravagant. I will let you know!
    Thanks for asking . . .

I was also going to ask what you had for dinner? I know you said that you were able to get veggies and keep it fairly zoned, but what was your entree, and what veggies did they serve?

Sounds like a really nice thing to do on Valentines day!

Its true what restaurant critics say, the more you pay for a meal the less you get. However, in case of Zone, that is a good thing.
Had a veal cutlet - and the portion was probably just about 5 oz or so, with a very light sauce and delicate taste.
It come with a vegetable and a side. Asparagus (one of my favorites) was included with the entree.
However, as with most restaurants, I suspected the amount of asparagus was probably only about 3 or 4 if that.
So for the vegetable I asked for double asparagus, and I got about 7 or so, about 1/2 block. The side I asked for green beans instead of starch, and between the green beans with the meal and the extra, probably about 1 cup or 1 block. A very pleasant meal. My wife ordered sirloin tips, with a hardy sauce. And certainly tasty, and much less than the usual 10-12 oz of tips one usually gets at a chain or family restaurant. A nice meal, and not overly priced in an old house converted to the restaurant.

Joh, my choice would be seafood, but since you are on the East coast, maybe you get enough of that! LOL!

Just noticed your ticker, and now I am gonna have to put that on my calendar!

Problem is, as you know, most restaurants offer salmon as the seafood, and it is almost always "farm raised" or waiter/waitress does not know - so I assume "farm raised" unless known otherwise and try other seafood, if available and if not fried. And very few restaurants offer veal, so I wanted to have some - glad I did. light, delicate taste (prep, sauce) was awesome.

John, I just have to ask, does your wife follow the Zone life also?

On a totally different topic, I have found out that, even in frozen veggies, a "serving" does not whatsoever constitute what a Zone serving of a veggie would be. I love roasted asparagus and we eat it regularly when in season, but yes, I have found in a restaurant that you do have to order double and hope for the best! Actually we had asparagus in a great local restaurant and it came wrapped in puff pastry! That was pre-Zone, thank goodness, but I would never lie and say that it wasn't decadent, because it was very good.

BTY, not to take from your glorious anniversary, but we proudly celebrated 35 years this past August! So, there really are marriages that still last!

Thanks for asking! No, unfortunately she never really got into it, never really got the concept of the "zone", and what it really means. Though she eats close to similar to me at dinner. She started with me - but would get her chocolate and hunger munchies at about 8 or 9 PM, and rather than adjust - eventually moved on to try something else. She is near her goal weight and is lovely to look at, compared myself before. I was about 50 lbs overweight when we started and I dropped 35 lbs within about 6 months, then plateaued for a while, then made a concerted effort, and lost the remaining 15 lbs and maintained since then. She is about 10 lbs over her goal weight (depending on time of Month) and is at about 30 lbs lighter than when we started together to get serious with our then slowly ever increasing weight.

John, around here, you rarely find salmon on the menu, unless you go to a restaurant that specializes in seafood. I am not a huge salmon fan, I really like tuna steak, though.

The usual seafood fare here is usually haddock or cod, shrimp, lake perch, walleye pike.

I am always watching for the broiled scallops, love them! I also like halibut, but we don't see it much; and when we do, it usually isn't that great.

Mari, no way do you look old enough to be married for 35 years!

This year was 15 for us. I was married at age 30, late start. Met Aaron when we were both in college, he was my sister's boyfriend's best friend (Steve), so it was a good match. She married Steve, and I married Aaron, and we have all been so very close. They married 5 years before we did, so it would have been 20 years for them, but he died just a few weeks before their anniversary.

OK, moving on from there, Aaron and I talked about getting married during that first year we were together, but I had said that I thought we should "get to know each other better". LOL, so he didn't ask me again until 7 years later!!!
