You must have one of those "Biggest Loser" scales - where it bounces around before they go to commercial before they show the current weight! lol

Keeping your needs in mind, a good new habit to adopt Mel!

A tip, keep the fruit and dairy in mind too (no more than 1 dairy and 1 or 2 fruit servings a day). If you don't want tips, just say the word. :-)

Does anyone know why only one dairy? I prefer a logical explanation vs just being a follower (sorry for wanting answers as to why I should change something so important). Do the Superzone foods contain calcium? I listen to my doctors re: calcium requirements, and it is definitely more than one serving per day for women! I value my healthy bones!

Do the Superzone foods contain calcium?"

Yes. To view nutrition label info go to SHOP>>Zone Baked Foods, View Items key>>Facts, Ingredients
and Details.

Mari, I think I can answer your question...

First, yes the foods do contain a fair amount of calcium (but I don't see any vitamin D, so you will still need to supplement that).

I believe that the reason why the dairy is limited is because many dairy sources contain carbohydrate that has a higher glycemic load than that of vegetables. Most of the veggies are so low on glycemic load, that you could almost eat an unlimited quantity (in theory, of course). But, because dairy and fruit have a higher glycemic load, they are limited in the number of servings. And, remember, the foods themselves have a glycemic index similar to fruit, so if you have too many servings of dairy and fruit, you may be raising the glycemic load above that of the Zone.

Hope that helps!

Mel, I think that the dairy is all in how you look at it.

Traditional Zone, cheese and cottage cheese are not "dairy"; they are protein blocks.

But, Zonefast, they are "dairy", yet they don't seem to be equal substitutions to me. I am still confused about that one.

Thanks for the dairy explanation, yes it did help very much! I do supplement vitamin D on a regular basis, so should be OK, since I already take my Dr. recommended supplements. Also, my fault for not reading the ingredients more closely!

S: 1/2 BROWNIE

CONFESSIONAL: 11OZ. SK MILK FRAPPUCCINO<img src='desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/sad.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Sad' align='absmiddle'>
OTHER THAN THAT I WAS DOING VERY WELL. NEW SHIPMENTS CAME IN AND I AM FULLY STOCKED ONCE AGAIN. THE ZONE GIRLS ON THE PHONE ARE SO PATIENT. HOPE THEY NEVER G3ET TIRED OF ME!! ROFL

* NOTE TO SELF: I FEEL BETTER WITH A LITTLE MORE PROTEIN. SO WHEN I MADE A SIMPLE SPAG SAUCE, I ADDED 2 CHICKEN SAUSAGES. THE FOLDER SAYS "1 OZ OF LEAN MEAT OR 2 EGG WHITES PER MEAL" CAN BE ADDED. I TRIED KEEPING IT TO MY USUAL 2 BLOCK MEALS BUT I NEED THE ADDED OZ OF PROTEIN. I'M ENDING THIS WEEK A BIT "SLEEPY". MY THEORY IS THAT REVERYTHING I DO IS A STRUGGLE AND I EXPEL A LOT OF ENERGY. NOTHING IS EASY FOR ME. GOING TO TRY THAT THIS COMING WEEK.

ANY COMMENTS...FEEL FREE. THANKS AHEAD OF TIME.

Mel, I am glad you are feeling well now. I am glad that you are finding out what works best for you, adding the extra protein.

I just wanted to follow-up by telling you that I am trying one of the recipes that you posted for the buckwheat groats, but I am using oat groats. I will let you know how it goes, but it is really easy to throw together!

I am also picturing using the oat groats in place of other things that one would generally use rice for. One of the recipes in the ZoneFast plan, the Southwest Orzo Salad, was one of my favorites, but I could never get it to keep me satiated. But, I am thinking that if I use the oat groats and make the salad with them and some added protein, that it would work much better, too.

Will keep you posted.

Just following up, the oat groats worked out nicely!

I used the Curried Buckwheat Salad recipe. Since I was only making one serving, I went with 2/3 cup cooked oat groats, about 1/2 cup chopped green pepper, a dash of minced onion, a tbsp of raisins, 1 tsp sliced almonds, 1 tsp EVOO, a splash of onion juice, and seasoned with curry, ginger, turmeric. For my protein, I added some chopped deli meat. I think cooked chix breast would work out nice in this, too. Just mix it all together and let sit for a few hours (was nice to let the flavors meld together).

Thanks again for sharing it! Now I have a new favorite recipe!

Mel,

"SLEPT VERY WELL. I THINK THE SAUSAGE MADE THE DIFFERENCE."

The most likely reason the additional protein is helping you is that by cutting out half the dinner and not consuming an amount of food equal to it in macronutrients at another time of day, you were not eating enough protein daily.

I tried the products as directed, but they didn't work for me until I realized that I definitely need to add protein in the form of meat to the Superzone products. Works out much better, and when I did this, no hunger - so far. Good luck!
