Are all steel cut oats the same? In the zone food block list on-line 1/3 cup of steel cut oats is 1 block of carbs. The one I purchased has 29 grams of carb (less the 4 grams of fibre) = 25 grams of carb. This is 3 blocks of carbs, so you would not be able to have more than 1/3 cup correct? Yet I see many receipes have 2/3 cup. |

Check the label to see if that 1/3 cup is cooked or dry. If I recall correctly, 1 block is 2 oz dry (in weight) or 1/3 c cooked. |

Typically, for most packages of Steel Cut Oats, 2oz dry (pre-cooked, about 4 TBL or 1/8 cup) is 1 block. |

1/3 cup cooked. My question though is this 3 blocks or one according to the carbs on the package. In the zone food list it clearly shows 1/3 cup cooked is 1 carb. I would think all steel cut oats would have about the same carb content. |

I am struggling to get a post up. Sorry you were demoted. My profile picture has changed, I used to have a more recent picture up there.
Back to the oats, most brands are fairly consistent, and so 1/3 cup cooked is going to be about right for one block of cooked steel cut oats.
However, since water also plays a role in the volume, I usually cook up whatever the package suggests for 4 servings, and then I divide it up into individual servings after it is all cooked up. |
