Hi, Everyone:
I'm just starting the Zone and I have a question that is probably quite simple but which I can't seem to find an answer to. On page 227 of the zone book (the first page of Appendix C, in my edition) it lists the protein blocks followed by this: (approximately 7 grams protein per block). On page 230 (Carbs) it says Carbohydrate blocks (approximately 9 grams carbohydrate per block). On page 237 it says FAT. Why is their no notation with regard to the grams of fat per block? Don't I need to know this information in order to balance my meal? I'm confused...........
Thanks!

Hi Duane, and welcome!
1 block of fat is 1.5 g, if you are using a protein with fat already in it (ie: most meats, tofu, soy, etc.)
If you are using non-fat protein (eg: tuna, egg white, protein powder), you should double your fat to 3 g per block.
Hope that helps!
You can also use the list of foods offered in the quick start guide.

Duane, can you tell me which book you are referring to?
I do think that this is important to know.
Generally, a fat block is a total of 3 grams. However, most of the food lists will list the fats in 1.5g portions, because it is assumed that the other 1.5g is in the block of protein. But, there is one zone book that this correction was not made... so if you use the wrong list, you could end up doubling your fat and that may hamper your results.

Hi Xee and Cat
The book that I referenced was the 1997 (I think) edition of the Zone.

Glad you pre-posted that. I was away from home the past few days, and I couldn't verify.
I just looked at my copy, and it looks like the fats are in 1.5g portion sizes (but you are right, it does not specify that in the book).
You can verify the fat portion sizes by comparing the values in the book with the food list on this site. This site should have the most updated list.
I have printed a copy of the most recent food list and have it on my fridge, then I don't have to go back to the book.
Hope that helps!
