Green peas are unfavorable, but you can use them as a block of carb, 1/2 cup per block.

Chick peas are a favorable carb (also known as garbanzo beans), 1/4 cup per block.

Butter beans are also a carb, 1/4 cup per block. I am not sure if they are favorable or not. They go by another name, but that name escapes me right now.

You would use these as carbs, even though they do have some protein content. Much of the protein is not absorbed in the body, as the protein binds to the fiber, and the fiber is not digested.

    Jayaprakash,

It my understading that some of the protein in plant foods is trapped inside of intricate structures of insoluble fiber. Because insoluble fiber does not break down in the human digestive system, the protein trapped inside it is not avialable to be absorbed, and is excreted still trapped in the fiber.

    John, LOL, you are right!

I wanted to say that, but was not going out on a limb.

Reminds me of a family trip to an Arizona ghost town, there was a man who played the fiddle and sang a song about "butter beans". We wondered for the longest time what butter beans really were, and were amazed to find out that they were lima beans.

Guess I had forgotten that little tidbit, though!

    Warning, Off Topic:
Fiddles are just country played violins.
(or Violins are just fancy played Fiddles!)
    .
My wife and I went to our first "contra" dance on Saturday evening, with a live fiddler band and caller. Basically "Contra" is a New England term. Basically it is a beginners type of country/square (barn) dancing - without having to know all of the moves.
    .
We thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was very aerobic!
    .
OK, now we take you back to your regularly scheduled topic .....

Oh, and I was enjoying the off-topic conversation!

LOL, it wouldn't have sounded right if I had said that there was this dude dressed like a cowboy playing a violin! He sang this silly
butter bean song to my son, who was just 3 at the time.

Memories! I will have to find that picture and post in on my FB page.

OK, now we can go back!
