I haven't read all of the books yet, and I know this has been covered numerous times...So sorry for the repetition, but I am curious - what is moderation?

I first read The Zone back in 1996 (somewhere around there anyway), and now I have "A Week in the Zone," "Zone Meals In Seconds," and I'm working my way through the first part of "The Anti-Inflammation Zone"...

In a couple of the books Pineapple is an okay fruit, but as Sue pointed out earlier in a different thread today...Pineapple is on the Moderation list.

I usually incorporate Pineapple into my meals once a week. I don't really notice a difference in how I feel when I eat it, so I'm curious - is once a week too much? Do I need more moderation - once every two weeks, once a month?

Is there a particular book where Dr. Sears talks more in-depth about moderation?

And one last one...Is Pineapple on the moderation list because it is higher-density, or acid level, or...?

    Thanks for any input!

Pineapple is highly carb-dense, which makes it an "unfavorable" carb. You can still incorporate it, but to stick best to zone guidelines, no more than 25% of the total carb in your meal should come from this category of carbs.

Your insulin response will dictate to you how moderate you have to go with it. Sounds like you are doing ok.

Thanks for the quick response! (I wasn't sure if anyone would still be around at this time, ha ha)

I figured it was probably highly carb-dense, but it made me wonder how/why it made it into the earlier favorable carb lists...

I will make sure that I try to stick with the 25% guideline, and see if it changes anything. It might be somewhat difficult because I don't really have an adverse response to it now, so I suppose we'll see!

Only BARRY SEARS can answer that question as to why it made it and then it was removed. LOL!

I just got home from bowling, and I figured I would wind down and look at some posts while finishing my bedtime zone snack and going to bed.

Jennifer, if you do well with pineapple, then eat is as you wish within the context of it being a higher density("unfavorable") carbohydrate. The best indicator of how much to include, always deferring to the 25% unfavorable carbohydrate rule, is your response to the meal, a favorable response being no hunger, good energy and good mental clarity 4 hours after the meal.
