I cant find anything that states the exact amount of fish oils. On some of the videos under "elite athletes" he states any where from 3-5g's for reaction and 5-10g's for performance. What is the recommended does for moderate athletes as far as grams a day or number of pills? |

BADD,
The amount of Omega Rx you'd take daily depends upon your degree of wellness. It's explained in TOXIC FAT as follows (grams refer to total amount of EPA and DHA combined).
To maintain wellness, 2.5 g/day (4 caps; 1 teaspoon liquid).
For overweight, obesity, type 2 diabetes, or before starting a diet, 5 g/day (8 caps; 2 teaspoons liquid).
For chronic pain, 7.5 g/day (12 caps; 3 teaspoons liquid).
For existing neurological conditions 10 g/day (16 caps; 4 teaspoons liquid).

on a serious budget right now and I know he views the regular store bought omega three pills to have "PCB" and other stuff you dont want in your body in them. But is there an equation to figure out how many regular or is it the same amount of capsules. Forgive my ignorance. Thanks for the response. |

Hi BADD, Barry Sears criteria is an ultra-refined fish oil with a 60% concentration of EPA and DHA from a batch that has attained the IFOS 5 star rating. You'd simply take and amount to give you the EPA and DHA you require as explained in the info from TOXIC FAT. But the problem is, as you mentioned, it will not be safe to take the fish oil you buy in stores in those larger recommended amounts. Also, because of the lesser concentration of EPA and DHA in fish oil bought in stores, you will need to take more capsules to get the same amounts of EPA and DHA, making it the same price as an ultra-refined, or sometimes even more money, to supplement with an inferior fish oil. |

Hi everyone. I'm just curious about the starting levels. Since I have Type 2 D, I am planning to start at 5 grams a day. But if I took more during the first 30 days, is there a set of typical symptoms that tells you maybe you're taking too much fish oil? It's probably something many zoners have run into at some point. I'd appreciate any hepful tips. I will also consult with my doc at my next appt in early Feb. But it would be interesting to hear of your adventures with fish oil. |

Martin,
re "is there a set of typical symptoms that tells you maybe you're taking too much fish oil?"
Yes, diarrhea, which Dr. Sears explains would mean, in this instance, a stool with total lack of form (all water).
