This past weekend I attended a seminar given by John Erickson, a certified zone diet instructor who gave fascinating insights about zone diet politics. He explained how the Columbo crime family and other NY mafia families got involved with the zone diet and pretty much bastardized the concept. Since no one can own the word zone, this is why there are dozens of "zone" diet companies...including zone perfect who is now owned by a company who makes their living off type II diabetes (this proves to be a conflict of interest since the zone concepts can cure type II diabetes). Interesting...He said he likes Dr. Sears as a scientist but academics that go to MIT are bad a sizing people up...therefore Dr. Sears has done business with people in the past he probably regrets.

Dr. Sears is not familiar with John Erickson. Dr. Sears has never done business with or been affiliated with the company that is alleged to have Mafia connections. In fact, he spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in court to have them remove the word Zone from their delivery program. Yes, he was once affiliated with ZonePerfect, but parted company years ago due to philosophical differences. He left ZonePerfect before Abbott Labs bought the company.
