I've been doing the Zone and Crossfit for about 2-3 months. I'm 38, height 5-5, 143 lbs using a 16 block/day, and I'm doubling the fat...also taking fish oil every day. However, I still don't have nearly as much energy as I thought I would at this point. Also, I seem to be sore all the time (I do crossfit 4-5 times a week).

So can anyone suggest anything that would increase my energy levels and decrease soreness after my workouts?

Your post doesn't give enough info for us to be able to tell you anything really specific. You best bet would be to make sure you're eating the right amount daily for your LBM, check that you're following the Zone correctly, check to be sure you're supplementing with the right amount of Omega RX (or Eico Rx), take Sea Health Plus, add only monounsaturated fats to meals and snacks (and make sure you're adding enough fat to supply your energy needs) and eat only veggies and a little fruit for your carbs. These measures will ensure that you have the best Zone results.

    Hi Brian:
First thing: If you're doing CF 4-5 days a week, including Buy-ins, Cash-outs, warm-up, and the WODS at a pretty intense level, you're NEVER not going to be sore!! Now, at BrandX they make a distinction between sore and SORE! Sore is ok because it means you've worked out well. This should not prevent you from working out properly. However, being SORE, and for a long time, might require you take a few days off to see why it could be.
Regarding food, and knowing I'm going to bring down Sue's wrath upon me, you should really increase your block count if you haven't already. CF is very demanding and you need to fix your muscles after a workout and on your rest day. Increasing your block count will provide enough protein for this, keep you inside the zone, and give you that extra amount of calories you need to not go into starvation mode, where the body will start taking from the muscle to keep up with your physical demands. Fat-wise I increase it 2X or even 3X depending on the WOD. You should be well inside the zone at this point so maybe your energy levels have to do with sleep? Or else with not having increased your block number. I'm also in the 16 block a day range but I've upped it to 20 and follow the 3-on 1-off program, scaling the WODs according to BrandX.
Other than this if you can provide some more info as Sue has said then we might be able to help you further.

Hi Diego...Sue's wrath haha! (you know me better than that) :-)

Here's my actual take (and I realize you didn't say brian needs 20 blocks). The 20 blocks that work for you would be too much protein for brian to eat and still be able to stay in the Zone because it repersents the maximum protein amount for a person in the Zone at the Elite activity level (1g protein per pound of LBM) with 140 LBM. brian's total weight is 143, so we know his LBM is less than 140. In addition his activity doesn't support the Elite level. (not quite Sue'wrath, just some classic Zone math...I know...bad pun...). Good to hear from you!
