I have not posted in awhile, but have been following the zone pretty well.
My husband has lost, on average, 2lbs per week, without going to the gym, so something is going right

Anyhow, does anyone have some snacks I don't have to cook, or, can easily throw together. Over the last few months, I have fallen into the same three snacks overall. I have looked into the main snack thread at the top, but any others are welcome.

1 hard boiled egg, >1 cup of Blueberries, handful of nuts.

1 can of Tuna, with relish and 1tbls Mayo in it. 1cup of Fruit.

1 or 2 slices of Lunch meat, >1 cup beans with melted cheese.

1 slice of cooked turkey breast (or lean ham) deli style (about 1.5 oz), cut into rough strips. Two long leaves of Romaine lettuce. Two black olives chopped into pieces. 1 teaspoon of hummus. Take a Romaine leaf, put strips turkey into it, spread with hummus, sprinkle with olives and some salt, put another leaf on top of it. Roll alongside the long side, eat as sandwich. I love these crunchy leaves! Have a cup of berries or salad made of one tomato and one pepper cut into chunks and mixed and some balsamic vinegar into it as a dressing. I usually make a bit more and enjoy it as lunch as well (2 blocks of it - plenty of food)

Check out the SNACKS tab in QUICK START GUIDE (link at right) for a long list of snacks the don't require cooking.

1 ounce of fresh mozarella with a cup of cherry tomatoes, a tiny bit of crusty bread drizzled with olive oil and vinegar. Spice with basal, oregano, salt and pepper to taste. Its a little hard to get the proportions right, as you tend to want more cheese and not so many tomatoes, but depending on how many blocks you are doing, its a really yummy snack and can even be a fast delicous meal.

I zap a 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries in the microwave for about 30 seconds. That will thaw them and make them juicy. Add a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese over the top, sprinkle with slivered almonds. My favorite!
(hope this doesn't count as "cooking")

    Thank you for the ideas
    These all sound wonderful.
I can go to a link, click on a blog, google etc etc etc! BUT! I like to know that people have tried these recipes, snacks, and they are easy to have on hand and prepare.

Bozena, I just had home made hummus the other night at a pot luck! I was so excited to see something I wouldn't feel guilty about eating.

Lilly, I LOVE tomoatoes, so I would probably wont more of those over cheese, but it sounds wonderful!

CC, ty for that idea. I usually eat my blueberries frozen, like a frozen treat
I wouldn't mind topping it with cottage cheese and almonds though!

More easy snacks (I eat these all the time and they fit all your criteria, except that the edamame need to be boiled for a few min):

Edamame: Very delicious! All you do is put a generous handful (about 1/3 cup of the brand I use) in boiling water for a few min, and then sprinkle with a little salt. A bag containing about 8 servings of shelled organic edamame less than $2 (at a generous 1/3 cup per serving that's about 25 cents per serving).

Plain non fat yogurt (1/2 cup) with 1 tsp of nut butter mixed in (peanut, almond or macadamia nut better are best for the Zone).

1/4 cup of Dr. Sears Zone Cereal

1/2 of a Dr. Sears Zone bar

"Soy Nuts": Check the nutrition label and eat an amount to give you 7-10 grams of protein. Avoid brands with added carb ingredients.

You can find some more in my recipe thread here: http://www.zonediet.com/Community/F...1/forumid/

You can also mic edamame -- I do this for my kids for a snack quite often, but I haven't done it for myself -- good idea! (I need something besides string cheese!!)

    Sue,

I have edamame now ... I microwave them ... but from the label on the bag, it feels like one whole cup = one block, so I've been eating accordingly.

Confused now! But, I go by Barry Sears' food guide rather than the labels when it comes to veggies etc ...

BTW, I got another pill-cutter, it seems to work a bit better, but it's still challenging ... still, every little bit helps! LOL

    Hi Alexy,

Double check yours and go by the amount on the label (are yours still in the shell maybe?). Everywhere I've checked (labels on my products, info in online food databses, THE SOY ZONE) shows 1/4 to 1/3 cup of boiled soybeans contain about 7 grams of protein (1 block). When in doubt, this site has always been a very good source: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

    Good about the pill cutter.
