I am going give this a go. I will/have lots of questions about getting started.

    For bfast I had:
    1 slice bread
    1 tsp. mayo (reg)
    2 slices of deli turkey

    Is this zoning?

    Welcome Brenda!

It's a good start. You have protein, carb and fat there. You'd need some more protein and carbohydrate to make it a full meal. To learn more go to Quick Start Guide (link at right).

    Keep us updated!

    Thanks for the Welcome Sue.

I thought a block of reg mayonnaise was 1/3 tsp. That is why I measured a full tsp to make a block.

    *A liittle info about myself.

I am a mother of two grown not so gone children. My oldest is married with three children.. Madison 7, JP 6, and Zoe 2 months. My youngest is separated from spouse and has two sons: Dylan 6, Lane 4, and she expecting a daughter on July 9: Paisley.
I am a school teacher. (special educator). The past 6 years I have put on 50 unwanted pounds. I am sure it is due to this new found love: (Hershey's chocolate bars) * I have not had one in a month...
I currently have the six week body makeover diet. I lost 10 pounds the first week using it. I ran across the zone and it seems to be more what I am looking for. I want to feel good and lose the 50 pounds at the same time.

I have a very loving and supporting husband. He juices three times a week. He doesn't do sweets, fast food, or fried foods.

    Hi Brenda!

Thanks for telling us a little about you. Zoe is beautiful! I'm a grandma too. :-) I change my photo here frequently, so you're bound to see him pop up there soon. :-)

I agree with you mayo amount. The reason I why I didn't say anything about the mayo (fat) amount is that you already have enough there. You'd only need to add some more carb and protein to that turkey sandwich in order to make it a Zone meal. You could accomplish this by doubling the amount of turkey you used, and eating 1/2 an apple with it. If yur turley is almost fat free, or almost, then double the mayo amount (to 2 tsp). I'll explain the reason for this in my next post in this thread.

A tip, it will be easier to get into the Zone if you keep the amount of bread to less than 25% of all the carb in any given meal (that's one of the Zone rules).

Since you like chocolate (I do too!) you might like some of the recipes in my meal and recipe thread in the Cooking Tips forum (check out my brownie batter smoothie there).

Have fun with it the Zone!

    Hi Brenda!

Here’s how Dr. Sears explains fat blocks (taken from MASTERING THE ZONE, page 292 and 293).

“Why is a fat block only 1.5 grams?
Every block of low-fat protein contains approximately 1.5 grams of “hidden fat”. Therefore, by adding one extra fat block (which is defined as 1.5 grams of fat) for each block of low-fat protein, you are actually consuming 3 grams of fat or two blocks (one internal in the protein and one external) for each protein block. If you are using fat-free protein sources, such as isolated protein powders, then you should be adding two blocks of fat to achieve the same ratio. Obviously, if you are eating higher fat protein choices, you would not be adding any extra fat blocks to your meal. Remember that every time you add additional fat blocks to a meal, they should be composed primarily of monounsaturated fat.”

Not quite. Try rereading the info a few times and you'll get it. Basically, you need at least 3 grams of fat to balance every fully balanced block of P, C and F; half of that fat (1.5 grams of fat) is in the fat block you add, and the other half (another 1.5 grams of fat) is hidden in the low fat protein block. You would add l fat block for each protein block you eat(amounts taken from the block list). If you choose a fat free protein (like fat free dairy, some deli-style meats, egg white, protein powder, etc.) you'd add 2 fat blocks for each protein block you eat.

    1 Dr Sears Zone bar contains 2P, 2C and 2F. Eat 1/2 bar for a 1 block snack, 1 1/2 bars for a 3 block meal, 2 bars for a 4 block meal, etc.

He's 8 mos old, my first grandchild, born 2 mos early, last October, weighing about 3 1/2 pounds. :-)

To start the day, I ate within an hour. Which is hard since I don't like to eat period.

    Bfast:
2 egg whites, 3 strips turkey bacon, 1 oz of non fat cheese
    1 tsp olive oil
1/2 tortilla shell, 1 cup salasa, 1/2 apple
