Hi, I'm an Italian Zoner with great results in following the Zone Diet.

ANyway, there is something I wasn't able to give up from my old eating habit, and that is fruit. I could eat 2 o 3 kilos of them everyday!

After joining the Zone I tried to reduce it, yet I cannot stick to the small amounts suggested in every Zone text.

I'll always end my meals with at least one apple and a cup of strawberries, or one grapefuit (adore them) and a big slice of cucumber.

I had no difficulties in giving up bread and pasta, despite the strong cultural addition Italian have towards these foods, but I don't think I'll be able to abandon fruit, and besides I think it's not that bad after all!

    Am I wrong?
    I am nothing.
    I shall always be nothing.
I can only want to be nothing.
Apart from this, I have in me all the dreams in the world.

It's not bad, Sylvia. but zoning means you have to balance the carbs of fruit with the protein of your meal. 1 apple could come after a dinner of meat and salad, or meat and a side of greens, for example. Or the cup of strawberries instead of the apple.

If you have had good success doing what you are doing, then why worry? We get an assortment of polyphenols by varying the colors of the foods we eat. If we eat all veggies and no fruit, then we are limiting our ability to get these polyphenols from their natural source.

If fruit can keep you in the zone, then by all means, eat away. Just try not to eat tropical fruits. Those are the unfavorable ones. Including pineapple, papaya, guava, mango, banana, and melons. Dried fruits are also considered unfavorable, such as raisens, prunes, etc. All the other ones are fine, especially berries.

What?? No Pineapple OR Banana?? All this time I was told they were fine (and darn nice as well). I find myself making strawberry smoothies most mornings as a kick start to the day, and is well favorable.

At the end of the day, (in my opinion) exercising has always got me to where I am, dieting has been the co-companion.

You could still have some tropical fruit, but then as no more than 1/4 or 1/3 of you carbs as they are unfavorable. When I do have unfav fruit, I combine with vegetables with meals and not more fav fruit - but then I am very Carb sensitive - but more so with grains, mostly avoided, except for the occasional Steel Cut Oats or Dreamfield's pasta.

Hmmm...in my Mastering the Zone book,it says that pineapple is a favorable carb...In my Soy Zone book, it has pineapple (cubed) under favorable and pineapple(diced) under unfavorable...Why is that?

All forms of pineapple, tropical fruits in general, and melons are now considered to be unfavorable carb. It's recommended to refer to the food block lists on this site for the most up-to-date info.

Not the specific details, but things are updated from time to time when new information becomes available.
