I have lost 30 pounds in the last 6 months and I am pretty well where I want to be. I am quite happy with myself and do not look back or want it back. However the weight loss seems more noticeable in my face and it has aged me. Has anyone figured a remedy, short of plastic surgery and botock for the loose skin. Would moisturizing help. What have other people done about it. I am sure other people are in the same situation. I know it can be a big secret, but it would really help others. Even discussing the surgery if any of you have gone through it. Thanks |

Serge, you could try some toning creams. It isn't a permanent solution, but it may help. |

Not everyone has the experience, Serge. It's very individual. I lost 100 pounds and don't have loose skin. From what I've heard there are many factors, such as one's skin elasticity (genetics play a part here), the amount of protien a person eats while losing the weight and the speed of the weight loss, to name a few. |

The sagging is due to loss of collagen. Natural aging process. You can choose from some treatments to try and correct it. "Fraxel" energy can be applied to the face. This utilizes radiofrequency energy (recent technology will also utilize this plus laser light energy)to deliver "burns" below the skin in a "spot" pattern as to avoid actually creating burns on the surface. In other words in a quarter sized spot on your skin the burns will be delivered to say, 25 small spots. The skin has been injured, so the body will heal and collagen will be produced. This is the natural response to healing. (large burn scars don't wrinkle as they are full of collagen) These treatments aren't cheap, maybe $1000 per and you will likely need 3 or 4. Expect results in 6-12 months. Another way to treat this is to use fillers such as Radiesse, Restylane, or Juvaderm. Basically they act as "bulk" to fill certain areas and soften the lines. Results are temporary, 6 months to 12 months max. Repeated treatments may induce collagen formation and may create more permanent results over time. Price can be anywhere $500 to several thousand depending on the amount of product used. Botox is used for wrinkles and lines associated with facial expression, like "crows feet", frown lines, or forehead lines. Again, this is temporary- 3 to 4 months. Expect $200 to $300 per area. Or you can go see the plastic surgeon and have some work done! Looking good isn't cheap! |

From what I have heard, if you drink the right amount of water, your body will rehydrate itself, and will plump up sagging skin. I know Dr. Sear's suggest 64 oz per day. I would suggest making sure you are getting enough water in. |

You might explore the hormone cream estriol. It is my understanding that it has an effect similar to botox. Can't say for sure. It has been awhile since I have read up on it. |

Why not try Retin A. It also uses a buring effect on the top layer of the skin therefore unveiling a tighter look. |

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE & lost only 20 pds over 15 wks. I love my new body but hate my old saggy face... I'm nearly 50 so that has something to do with it.
I get filler! Costs me about $700 and only last 6 months & boy can I tell when it's diminshed! I use Ret A, prevage, LOTS of good products... but the sagging is only helped by filler for me. |

Go for anti aging treatment. Use good quality products & go for toning. Apply face mask & follow skin tightening process. |

what is filler? and where in the hoot can you get Retin A, prevage, or collagen? I have a very big problem on my waist and on my stomach. I was very big there, and with the zone diet, i am still losing weight, thank god, literally, but now i have this very large mass of yuck hanging off my waist. I have not lost all the weight i am going to lose on the zone diet.i am going to keep going until i have lost the extra 110 lbs,i have been carrying around. I found a product on line called TrimSport and it is supposed to help with that very thing. But it is very expensive... $80 a bottle a month. Has anybody ever heard of it? Does anybody know if it really does work like they say it does. I am tempted to try it, but i do not want to be a victim of a scam. Please,...if anyone knows about this product please do not hesitate to send me an email to twildes@frontier.com thank you. teri |

I don't believe that anything can get rid of that extra skin except plastic surgery. The older a person gets, the less elastic their skin is. |

I was just reading about this on Dr. Sears website. I'm trying to remember, but it was about increasing protein to help the collagen, both in aging and in sagging skin. I will look and see if I can find the info again. |

Here is a link that you might find helpful (from Mark's daily Apple): . Hi Mark, Excess skin after weight loss is a big topic in most weight loss communities, yet I rarely hear about it in the Primal community. Does the Primal lifestyle prevent excess skin? Are there any tips from either yourself or from the members of the community about avoiding or preventing excess skin after weight loss? I am currently approx 100 lbs overweight so this is something that really concerns me. Gabrielle . Rather than post the entire answer, here is the link, with some excerpts below it ... : Read more: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/how-...z1yT7Qo4K5 http://www.marksdailyapple.com/how-...z1yT7N7gVu . . Before getting into potential methods of treating and/or preventing excess skin after weight loss, let’s explore the phenomenon itself. What exactly is loose, or excess skin? . Most cases of loose skin are actually just cases of excess subcutaneous body fat covered by skin. And because subcutaneous fat is “soft” fat, it is looser and easier to confuse with skin. It droops and jiggles and the skin that surrounds it conforms to its shape. That’s not to suggest that legitimately loose skin isn’t a real problem, because it is. But I would wager that many if not most cases of loose skin can be explained by overly stubborn deposits of subcutaneous fat. Stubborn fat is actually a real thing. ... . If your loose skin is thicker than a few millimeters, there is residual body fat. ... . This isn’t really bad news, believe it or not. It actually means that you’re almost there. It means that your “loose skin” isn’t necessarily out of your control. ... . That said, if your loose skin is paper thin, closer to the thickness of your eyelid or the back of your hand (about 1 mm thick), and resembles rolled up papyrus or parchment, you likely suffer from excess skin. What can be done to prevent or deal with actual excess skin? ... |

I have never heard of these procedures. Where do you get them? Do they cause scaring and what are the results? What is the best approach mentioned? Thanks, I have small frown areas that have sunken in due to lack of fat on my cheek bones (disappeared with weight loss).

Maureen, most of the procedures mentioned earlier in this thread would be done by a plastic surgeon. |

My post referring to Mark's Daily Apple article does NOT involve surgery. It has some very good insightful information! |

I just wanted to say that I had sagging muscle and skin under my forearms, it used to swing. Grr. After months of exercising and getting more toned, I noticed the sagging is much less and will continue to shrink. I am not losing a lot of weight--I'm 150 lb right now and lost probably 5 to 10 lbs. So the sagging is due to ... age? But the weight-lifting made a real difference. Sarah |

I just read the links posted by Linda. Gelatin can help with wrinkling? I'm a bit confused here ... can someone, e.g., tech support, go into greater detail? How much, why, etc? Thanks, Sarah |

Our skin is composed of collagen, when gelatin is consumed (one packet of unflavored gelatin per day) it stimulates additional collagen production which may reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. |

Thank you Tech Support... I am going to start using one a day. It should work well mixed in a smoothy. |

Plenty of protein in a packet of plain gelatin, I used to add it to smoothies before I started using protein powder. |

Hi Cranberrycat, I just got Gelatine by Knox at Superstore. Googling online, it seems that Gelatine is just the British spelling of gelatin. Now ... I want to make sure I AM getting the right thing to help rebuild my sagging skin (not my arms or anywhere else, I even lost the cellulose on my legs (!!!!), but for my stomach, which is sagging. The more I pull in my stomach, the more it sags, wrinkles, etc. Ugh. Ingreditents: only one is listed: gelatine. It has zero carbs and 4 grams of protein in one little package (7.2 grams in the package). It's a product of USA, so I don't understand why it's spelled gelatine and not gelatin. So I'm double-checking with you and anyone else--John?--who might know whether I DID get the right thing to help rebuild my sagging skin ... :-) Any information would be welcome. This weekend: I'm gonna try to figure out how to, er, weight-lift my stomach ... LOL ... maybe a trainer? I'd rather not have a lot of loose skin as I continue to lose weight. I'm reading Mark's Daily Apple ... interesting :-) Also, 4 grams of protein doesn't seem that much, but there are 4 packages in the box ... Alexy |
