My master the zone book is at home, I know is says it in there. How much fat does the zone account for in protein? I just downloaded the following supposed 5 block recipe... 40g protein = 5.7 blocks (good) 46g carbs = 5.1 blocks (good) 16g fat = 10.6 blocks??? (16/1.5) or does the protein take into account some of that fat? |

Hi ! Here's the fat info: The block method takes into account that half (1.5 g) of the 3 grams fat needed for balance is hidden in your protein choice. The other half (another 1.5 g) is in the added fat block. For every block of fat free protein you eat you would add 1 extra monounsaturated fat block in order to get the full 3 grams of fat needed in every completely balanced block of P, C and F. A 5 block Zone meal contains 35 grams of protein, 45 grams of carb and 15 grams of fat. |

I've been wondering this for a while... If I'm eating a protein with fat in it, let's say a 5oz steak, how do I determine how much fat is in the steak so I can count it towards my fat blocks? |

You'd do best to simply add the usual number of fat blocks when you're not sure. In your exanple, you'd add 5 blocks of fat to the meal. |
