Sandra, a few Zoners eat Ezekial bread. If you can't find Ezekial bread, it would be best if the bread was 100% whole grain. But be careful with bread ... it's on the moderation list, which means only 25% of your carbs for that meal/snack can come from bread. That's true for any food on the moderation list.
    Happy Zoning!

    Welcome sandra!

You'll have the best Zone results if you pass on the bread. Dr. Sears says said that he includes a little bread in the first week of his Zone menus for newbies in his latest book, to make it easier transition to the Zone diet. He also advises that rye bread is preferable to other breads because it has a lower glycemic load, though it is still to be consumed infrequently and in condiment amounts.

What kind of message is being passed when the text says that bread is unfavorable, and then bread is in the recipes? Newbies need to be shown how to eat favorably in the Zone, rather than how to break all of the rules!

I don't want to eat any bread.... It is my boyfriend. He wants bread, he;s asking if he can at least have multigrain..
Not sure if he will stick to it, but I will. :-D

Good for you, Sandra! I think the majority of Zoners don't eat bread ... I know I don't. I just know I've seen Ezekial bread (sprouted) mentioned a few times in the forum. Personally, if I did eat bread, I would find a low-carb bread and eat it sparingly. I used to be a BIG bread junky, but I find I don't miss it at all. It's not even tempting when there is a bread basket on the table at a restaurant. Hopefully your boyfriend will get to that point.

Good luck to you and your BF!
    Happy Zoning!

I am BRAND new......! I am thrilled with the prospect of a healthier lifestyle. I have battled with the same 20-25 pounds for years. I just downloaded the 7 day plan, and it has a fair bit of bread in it.... ???

I usually have one slice of whole grain toast for breakfast, seems to work for me but everyone is different. I did slow cooked oatmeal for the first two months and found it makes me sleepy by mid day for some reason, the bread worked better. I dont think I am carb sensitive as much as most people, so watch out!

    Cynthia,

Re: " I just downloaded the 7 day plan, and it has a fair bit of bread in it.... ???"

Which plan do you mean? I just looked at both women's 7 day planners on this site and the only bread I saw was 1/2 a bun on day 3 in the regular (non vegetarian) planner, none in the vegetarian planner, unless I missed something.

Are you referring to the SuperZone plan maybe? The SuperZone foods look and taste like bread, pasta, cookies, etc., but do not act like them in the body because of the unique way in which they're made. In fact they give better hormonal control and better Zone results than the best regular Zone meal you can put together. I eat them regularly. They're fantastic!

HI. I am a little confused about bread also-- when I search on line for meal ideas I see bread listed...but even more so I see oatmeal often as well.
Is oatmeal really favorable and bread is not?
Also, I believe I read some where I should have the complex carbs in the morning and dinner and evening snack leave to fruits and veggies?

I am new, and finding it difficult to pack meals for work for the day leaving out bread (just to account for time, space, cost....) any ideas please let me know!

Check out the SupeZone bread, Jenn (find ouut more in theSUPERZONE tab above). It looks and tastes like store bought and home made bread, but is baked in a way which allows it to keep you in the Zone. It's great!

Yes, steel cut oatmeal favorable for the Zone. Bread is not, with the exception of the SuperZone foods.

Bread is unfavorable and should be used minimally in the Zone. The general guideline is that no more than 25% of the total carb in a meal should be coming from an unfavorable source.

    Steel cut oats are great!

I don't know if there is any difference re: time of day for that.

Hi Jenn -- you can find it where oatmeal is sold in the grocery store. Just be sure it's not the instant oatmeal.

    Here are some examples:

Here's a great Zone thread on the topic:
