I'm not religious about following the Zone tenets but I try. Breakfast is usually 1/2cup oatmeal, 1/4 cup egg whites, 2TBS Adams peanut butter, one cup soy milk and a TSP honey, all mixed together and nuked. Work quickly became the day from hell. I'm a veterinarian. In 5 degree weather I had to geld a wild horse in the snow, then enucleate a cancerous eye in a dog, then remove a tumor from the leg of another dog, all the while seeing patients and answering calls from clients. The horse turned into a rodeo with three guys trying to corral him for the IV injections, then the cancerous eye dog turned out to be 16yrs old with a heart murmer, and the third surgery was a hunting dog with zero body fat, something that screws up anesthetic metabolism. I got to work at 7, was out the door for lunch at 2. I spend my lunch hour jogging. I was surprised that my running pace was a lot faster than I typically have. On the Aktins diet, I would average 11:00 pace. Yesterday I averaged 9:00 pace. After the run I went home for lunch; Canned salmon on all-grain toast plus an apple. I got off work at 6 and went for my second run. Same situation as earlier, my pace was faster than usual. After the run, dinner was stirfry veggies and chicken, followed by a handful of almonds. I've been following the zone for a few weeks. This was the first day that I felt it had helped my running. kevin |
