CC - finally found this thread. Took me a while to figure out where to look. It feels neat to be missed.

For those who didn't see my post on the other thread, my computer needed a trip to the emergency room. Had to be brought back to life. It took a while to get things all straightened out. I look forward to catching back up with everyone.

Glad you are fine! I was going to give you a message that Karen had passed on via email, but we didn't know what happened to you.

I think you have found her post, so I guess I don't have to pass on the message any longer!

What would we do without computers? Hopefully Karen will be joining us again in a few weeks. She has so much on her plate at the moment.

So happy you are ok. I didnt want to think that you might be ill.

Thanks for the welcome back Margaret. Unfortunately I'm dealing with the creeping crud this week, but that's nothing in a scheme of things. Now if I can get myself back in the zone, I'll be doing a lot better.

How are things for you? How's your DS, did he find a new job yet?

Can't wait to touch base with Karen. She was supposed to WI again on Monday at the Dr. and I'd love to know how she did.

    Hi sue

I dont know what creeping crud is but it doesnt sound nice ....

Things are looking up for me - a miracle! I am going to try and do 10,000 steps a day to see if I can shift this body fat.

My son is doing very well. He is still with his same organisation and looks like they may make him permanent which is great news. Wish they would hurry up!

My daughter has had a big change in career. She quit the public service after 10 years and now wants to be a gym instructor. She went for an interview today at 7am! Her boyfriend was talking to one of the staff and they mentioned that one lady had quit. It will be a receptionist job and they will pay for her to finish this year and next at college for the instructor side. This should all be finalised by the end of the week .... so many changes happening.

I was thinking about what CC said re the provider. The provider is there for you - not you for them so she should be able to say how she wants the food cooked. Karen was going so well ..... hope she lets us know how the WI went.

    Margaret,

Creeping Crud, an expression for flu, cold etc that happens to be going around. I has a slight cold, but now have a fever for the past day and a half. My DS was home for break and was at the Dr. on Wed. they tested him for strep. Don't have those results yet. I'm hoping I can get in to see the Dr. today, otherwise it will be Monday.

I'm happy to hear your DS is still at his job. I agree, hurry up and make it permanent.

Good news for your DD if she gets this job. Having the schooling paid for is huge.

Yes, Karen's provider needs to listen to her. If she can't, then she needs to find someone new.

Good job on trying to get in 10,000 steps a day. I've done that, but haven't worn my pedometer lately. I'd done it for so long, it was getting on my nerves. I need to start back with it though, it really is motivating for keeping you moving.

you are so full of good news, that's awesome!

I think the goal of 10,000 steps is an excellent idea. I used to wear a pedometer all the time, just to keep track of it. My job isn't an active job, but I would generally do things a bit differently, in order to keep from sitting on my "you know what" all day. Definitely makes a difference, but at the same time, I think we still need that 1/2 hour burst of aerobic activity and some strength training, as well.

My pedometer broke, that is why I don't wear it now! LOL! But, if it were working, you bet I would be wearing it every day!

CC - I agree we need more than 10,000 steps, however it is a good place to start. It helps to get us more active and that in turn leads us to the other activities. Do you know how many steps you can add by running for 30 min? it's a quick way to boost the step count. We do need the strength training as well.

I am not sure how many steps it would be for running (guess it depends on your pace). I do know that one can walk approx 2 miles in 30 min, and 2 miles is about 4000-5000 steps (depends on stride, my stride is much shorter). So, for many of us who are desk-sitters, that extra 1/2 hour walk will help us to achieve those 10,000 steps much easier!

CC - running steps are not any more than walking in most cases, you just add them up quicker, since your feet are moving faster. I am not a fast runner, but for those who can run 6 mph or better, they will cover 3 or more miles in 30 min. Depending on stride, that means they could get in 6-8000 steps in 30 min. Again, just another way to make that 10,000 and easier number to reach.

Hey it works for me and I runs slooooow. It does help though. Really you are doing a lot more moving around. Like you hit the gym, even though when doing weights you don't step much, you move between machines or change weights, so you are on your feet more than other things.

Yes, can relate to that. I do the Curves workout, and every other station is a type of resistance machine. But, the idea is to do the repetitions fast enough to create MORE resistance, which helps to build that muscle mass. AND, the stations in between are "recovery" stations, which are meant to help your muscles "recover" from the resistance. But, again, the idea is to keep moving, and so I end up usually jogging in place to keep the pulse rate clipping along.

Other than that, I am far from being a runner!

I've done Curves. Won a two month membership one time. I did it for that time, but it wasn't really my cup of tea. I prefer the regular gym. I'm back and forth on my running, but always seem to come back to it. Generally when I'm clicking along, I do about 3 miles. I've dreamed of doing a marathon, but haven't had the stick-to-ititveness to get in all the training. Usually I start of too hard an get injured.

I sure wish we'd hear from Karen. I'm dying to know she and her family are doing and how her Dr. Appt went.
