I have a fairly severe abrasion on my back from a biking accident, and I was looking for suggestions on the best way to treat it. Dressing or no dressing, etc. I also injured my shoulder and it started swelling right away, but two days later the swelling was not noticable. I mention this because I have been a "sweller" all of my life, but on the Zone I don't have nearly as much of a problem with it.
Thanks,
Gary |

Gary,
Depending upon how "severe" maybe you want to get it looked at. Otherwise this is what I would do (I've had experience with many large surgical incisions in the past few years). If it's still open (wet) put bacitracin or Neosporin on it twice a day and keep it covered. Once it dries out or scabs over you wouldn't need a dressing.
Hope it heals soon.

Hi Gary, If you are open to natural remedies, calendula is also good for healing wounds such as abrasions, and arnica is good for bruises, etc. Both are available in cream and/or gel at most health food stores. I have seen really good results regarding quick healing and little scarring with these. Hope it's better soon! (And Sue, you might also keep these in mind for your upcoming surgery, once you are past the stage of needing antibiotic cream and such.) ~Donna |
