    Ellen,

Yes, and Yes! (just read labels to check block balance, fat content)

Hi . thanks but I am still so confused with this diet. the blocks versus the 40, 30 and 30 %. I will keep trying to reread my week in the zone book. Also wanted to know if you knew of a sugar free low fat or fat free peanut butter pie or mouse in the zone? thanks. I made one with low fat cream cheese, natural peanut butter, milk and sugar free cool whip. NOt sure if it is right?

Ellen, I am not familiar with any specific recipe for those pies that you were asking for. Have you tried looking in the recipe section here on this site?

If you post the recipe amounts that you used, we could look at it to verify if the balance is correct. But, whether or not it keeps you in the Zone is really your decision!

    Hi ellen!

40/30/30 is merely a description of the average Zone balance. There's no practical need to focus on it. You will do well in the Zone using either the block method or the plate method, both described in easy to follow detail in Quick Start Guide (link at right). Low fat sugar free pies and mousse as you deescribed could probably be worked into the Zone in small amounts once in a whille, but would not be great to eat in the Zone on a regular basis.

Hi Thanks for the info. For the peanut butter pie I used a8 oz of low fat cream cheese, 1/4 cup natural peanut butter, 8 oz of sugar free ( and i think Fat free) cool whip and a few teaspoons of 1 % milk. Could you tell me the blocks for a serving?

    Hi ellen!

Thos foods would all be considered as fat for the Zone. You'd simply add up all the fat grams in the ingredients you used, and then divide by 1.5. This will give you the number of fat blocks in the whole pie. Then divide the number of fat blocks in the whjole pie by the number of servings in the pie to detremine the number of fat blocks in 1 serving. My best guess is that ther are about 6 blocks of fat in 1/8 of the pie. If your cream cheese contains a significant amout of carb, you would also count that. You would not count the P and C in the peanut butter.

Yikes. Thanks for the info. Wont make it again. I just had something like that when I had this zone diet delivery service. It was a sugar free low fat peanut butter pie so I was trying to copy that. <img src='desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/shocked.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Shocked' align='absmiddle'>
