Hello, I made the baked oatmeal yesterday and it tastes amazing! i poured it into 2 small cake pans and it rose about 2 inches, and then divided the cakes into 8 rectangle bars. On the recipe it says that the baked oatmeal makes 4- 3 block meals. What does this mean? Does it mean that 2 of my rectangle bars contain 3 carb blocks, 3 protein blocks, and 3 fat blocks? or does it mean that they contain 1 carb block, 1 protein block, and 1 fat block? please help me out! |

Hi Emma!
If the whole contains 4 3-block meals that is 12 blocks, which means 12 P plus 12 C plus 12 F. If you split that into 8 portions, each of the 8 portions contains 1.5 blocks, which means 1.5 P plus 1.5 C plus 1.5 F (12 divided by 8 equals 1.5). 2 of your rectangle blocks contain 3 p plus 3 C plus 3 F (1.5 plus 1.5 equals 3). |

HELP! I made the baked oatmeal from the zone recipe page... It called for 2 cups of egg substitute. I wasn't sure if it was 2 liquid cups or 2 little egg substitute cups. It seems like 2 liquid cups would be a lot of egg plus the protein powder would be a lot of protein. I used 2 little egg substitute cups. It came out like oatmeal bread... Can someone clarify? |

Please correct me if I am wrong. But I see fat only in spray for nonstick pan and in a cup of milk. I can add nuts for fat and no problem. But I wanted somebody to check if it's really correct blocks of carbs and proteins... |

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. After further review it was dicovered that at some point, some recipes that where submitted by members on the web site slipped through the cracks prior to review.. This recipe will be removed. We reviewed the recipes and are in the process of Zoning them.

Thank you for new recipe. It's really very zoned now. I just want to share my update on this recipe which will give good taste, nice prezentation and still keep Zoners balanced. I don't like to use protein powder in baking. I prefer to eat it with cottage cheese or Greek yogurt on the site or eat boiled egg before. I changed blueberry and strawberry to apple and cranberry. Oatmeal goes together with apple and cinnamon very well and cranberry just for color, a little sour and great taste. You can add any berries you like. Also I use walnuts, it's soft and crunchy, soo good, TRY and ENJOY. 2 cups still cut oats 2 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups eggbeaters whites(from trader joes 100% beaters whites cage free) 1 cup plain yogurt 1 cup apples peeled and cubes 1 cm 1 cup walnuts , big pieces is fine Cook , cut into nice pieces and let it stay in fridge few hours. Oatmeal taste will disappear at all. Your guests will not even know its oatmeal. I offer to my guests to put spoon of honey on the top who is not Zoners at all and they like it. I try to update avatar again from IPAD and it's not working. |

hi cranberry cat! i think you may be a good person to ask this of - when a recipe says 1 cup cooked oatmeal, does that mean i start with 1 cup of oats & then cook them? or its is 1 cup after they are cooked as it would take more to cook them to get to the 1 cup cooked? does that make any sense? thanks, Julie |

Hey (not CranCat but) Cooked means already cooked. 1 cup cooked is about 1/4 cup steel cut oats and 3/4 cup water. (3:1 ratio water to oats.) . You can make ahead, as in this recipe: . 1 cup oats here. This will make enough for 3 to 5 servings. Remember, when you make steel-cut oats you really should make enough for a whole week, or at least several days. Unlike gluey, sticky rolled oat oatmeal, steel-cut oatmeal is great when reheated the next day. It just gets creamier — not ickier. So make a big pot and eat out of it all week. . Ingredients 1 teaspoon butter or olive oil 1 cup steel-cut oats 3 cups water 3-fingered pinch salt 1 cup milk (optional) . Tools 2-quart saucepan . Instructions 1. Start this the night before you want to have steel-cut oatmeal. Measure out your oats. This quantity will make about 4 servings. 2. Heat about 1 teaspoon butter or olive oil in a 2-quart saucepan set over medium heat. Add the oats and fry them for about 3 minutes, or until they start smelling toasty. 3. Pour in the water and add the salt. Stir. 4. Bring to a rolling boil. 5. Turn off the heat and cover the pan. Leave it on the stove, and go to bed! 6. The next morning, uncover the pan and bring the oatmeal back up to a simmer. If you would like thinner and creamier oatmeal, stir in a cup of milk before reheating. When the oatmeal is warm, scoop out and enjoy! . Additional Notes: • Cover and refrigerate any leftovers. • Re-heat leftovers in just the same way: warm up on the stove, or in a bowl in the microwave.

Perfect Steel-Cut Oats serves 2-4, depending on how hungry you are! . 3 cups water 1 cup steel-cut oats pinch of salt . Bring the water to a boil and stir in the oats and salt. Let the water and oats come back to a boil then reduce to medium-low heat. Let the oats simmer with the lid slightly ajar, stirring frequently until cooked through: - 20 minutes for chewy oats - 30 minutes for softer oats. . Stir in extras like milk, sweeteners, nuts, and fruit off the heat in individual bowls. Leftovers keep for one week. |
