Hi everyone.
This time I have not posted in a really long while. I don't think I have posted since my updates at 120 days.
http://www.zonediet.com/Community/F...fault.aspx But, I have been back to my Doctor's for another 3-month check up and I wanted to share my results with the community again.
To recap, in June of 2008, I had health concerns. Here were my lab results:
Ht: 6'2"
Wt: 340 lbs
BP: 145/95
Glu: 157
Chol: 166
HDL: 28
LDL: 85
Trig: 266
T/H: 9.5
Scared that a heart attack was impending (with a T/H ratio of 9.5!!) followed by Type II diabetes, I began following the Zone diet. After 120 days I had great success, which I detailed in my last post linked above.
The doctor had reduced my medication for blood pressure to the smallest possible dose. After 3 weeks using the new dosage, I went off the medication completely.
I had my blood work done again recently and here are my new results after about 180 days in the Zone:
Ht: 6'2" (for reference - I don't expect this to change)
Wt: 270 lbs
BP: 120/80
Glu: 100
Chol: 122
HDL: 28
LDL: 79
Trig: 77
T/H: 2.75
So, I have now lost 70 pounds! My blood pressure is in the normal range (maybe slightly high diastolic) but now with no medication needed. My glucose is normal, cholesterol is excellent. My HDL has started to rise a bit. My triglycerides have dropped tremendously and now my Triglyceride-to-HDL ratio is 2.75, a truly amazing change. I have dropped 6-8" off of my waist and had to dig into the back of the closet to find clothes that fit me. I literally have a new wardrobe as none of my old clothes fit.
I have achieved all of this by eating within the Zone guidelines. Fish, chicken, turkey and low fat cheese for proteins, Zone-favorable veggies and fruits for carbohydrates and olive oil, avocado, macadamia, almonds and cashews for fats. I am now also walking 5-7 times a week for 30 minutes. I also take 4 OmegaRx and 2 EicoRx fish oil pills and 1 polyphenol pill daily.
I could not be more convinced that the Zone works. I only wish the medical community would come around and start prescribing the Zone diet to people with metabolic syndrome, Type II diabetes and heart disease.
I would be happy to share additional information if anyone is interested.
