In case anyone is interested, I had to travel for business recently and knew that I would meet many unfavorable foods on my trip. Also, wholesome "zoned" snacks would be difficult to come by.
I found that roasted soybeans (unsalted) are very easy to carry and have a good dose of protein, some carbs and a little fat. I threw in raw almonds and a Clif bar (organic/natural and high in carbs) for an occasional bite.
I apparenly did something right because I lost two pounds over the week that I was gone! I've been keeping the soybeans handy in case snack time comes and I don't have anything ready. |

Hey I am leaving town in the morning and I am going to grab some soy nuts for the trip, good idea. I KNOW it's going to be challenging to stick with this and it's only my 2nd day on the plan! |

This has been discussed on the current forum and the old forum in the past. ZonePerfect bars work great for me during travel, chicken (or beef) jerky is an option if you like it, it can stay outside refrigeration for a few days after you open it. For short hops between refrigerators, cheese cubes or string cheese in individual packs are good, and I like to take grapes because they're easy to count, no guesswork. Those flat packs of tuna fish that don't require draining are great, usually they are around 3 blocks protein per pack. Obviously, macadamias and almonds travel fine for fat blocks. If you're traveling in Europe or Asia, you can get lowfat milk in UHT containers with a little straw stuck to the side, usually a 1-cup serving. Those don't require refrigeration till they are opened, so I use them for travel.
I'm sure other people have plenty of suggestions. I've never tried using soynuts, I'll have to check into that. Thanks for the idea.

Hi Kate,
I wasn't losing weight for awhile on the Zone until I cut out the ZonePerfect bars...I think some people just can't hack the corn syrup that's i them (and I'm one of them). It's too bad because they taste good! :)
Give the soynuts a shot...they're great to pick at if you sit and work at a computer.

Yes, I like them too, better than the Dr Sears bars. In moderation they don't seem to cause me a lot of trouble but I don't have them on a daily basis. More like a couple per week, unless I'm traveling. I have been on long-haul plane flights where I subsisted on tuna, almonds, grapes and zone bars, and it's surprising how you crave salad when you do that!!! How do people go day after day and never eat a vegetable?? I used to, but I can't remember what it was like!
Yes, this was really off-topic.
Take care,
Kate |

Not really off-topic, Kate, and I agree. I used to be able to go days with only an occasional vegetable. Now if I have to subsist for a meal with out veggies, it stresses me out! That's why I was worried about travel. I crave a whole new set of foods now, which is a nice change for a girl who used to visit the snack machine 1-2 times a day... :D
I also see the girls that I work with putting all kinds of processed carbs into their bodies and they won't listen to me. One girl told me with a straight face that she "just has big bones" while a dish of three cadbury eggs sat there ready to be demolished. hmmm... :? |

Have you tried the brand "Mighty Mo Munchies"? They're the best, especially the ranch flavor.

Hi,
I get them here in CT in Wild Oats , in the aisle with the salsa and chips.
Yes, your take on blocks looks correct. For a snack I usually have a few handfuls and a chunk of apple or some berries. This keeps me in the Zone very well. And, BTW, I'm definietly in the Zone. My last fasting insulin reading, taken exactly one week ago today, was 8. 8)
Happy snacking!
