I'm sure this is listed in the Zone books I have, and I can check my book. But I thought it might be more efficient to ask in here and see if anyone knows. How many milligrams of fish oil should I take daily? I'm on an 11 block diet. I can't afford the pills provided by Zone Labs. |

AHA reccomend 900mg omega-3 every day.
Dr Sears recommends 2400mg
on zone labs prices to follow AHA would cost US$0.69 a day
on zone labs prices to follow Sears dose would cost US$1.83 a day
If you took advantage of the Easter promotion on www.pgfo.com, you would find
on pgfo.com prices to follow AHA would cost US$0.39 a day
on pgfo.com prices to follow Sears dose would cost US$1.04 a day.
Bulk order prices are even cheaper!
You decide what you can afford. But please don't compromize your health with anything less than Pharmacuetical grade.

Though a couple of people would disagree, several of us who also can't afford it, use:
[b:110e588a7b]RxOmega-3[/b:110e588a7b] Factors from [b:110e588a7b]Natural Factors[/b:110e588a7b] (available via [b:110e588a7b]iHerb.com[/b:110e588a7b]), each capsule provides 400 mg of EPA and 200 mg of DHA (60% - just as the Zone PGFO). And the (self) reported quality is well below FDA & USDA guidelines.
PCB's: Natural Factors @ or below .1ppm, Zone @ or below 1ppb.
Cost of NF based on 4 capsules per person per day or (4x600 mg) 2400 mg:
$15.00 per 120 capsules = $15 / 30 days = $00.50 per day per person. |

Thank you both for the information. I greatly appreciate it.
I think I know the answer to this but wanted to ask anyhow. Does the fish oil capsules count towards your daily fat blocks? I would assume not but then again, if I eat fish for dinner I should count the fat in the fish right? |

The standard zone advice for those taking 2400mg Omega - 3 from PGFO is that you do not need to count it.
For those with medical conditions requireing high dose (eg 16 caps) it is advised to count it.
The body counts it in the same way as the fat in fish.
The important thing is to take PGFO whether you count or dont count is not that important

P.S. I was curious, so I went to www.vitaminshoppe.com and found NO MATCH for Natural Factors.
[b:c8a8eb1111]Matching Brands:[/b:c8a8eb1111] (for search of "Natural Factors") Jason Natural Cosmetics, Sarati International, Designer Whey, Inholtra Natural, Celestial Seasonings, Natural Sources Inc., Naturade Products Inc., Desert Essence, Dolisos America Inc., Nature''s Gate.
By-the-way: Here's numbers for Natural Factors:
[b:c8a8eb1111]PCB < .09 ppm[/b:c8a8eb1111], arsenic <.1 ppm, lead < .1 ppm, Mercury < .01 ppm
From research:
PCBs are extremely toxic. Low levels of PCBs have been shown to cause health problems in humans. [b:c8a8eb1111]Two parts per million (2.0 ppm) of PCBs is the highest acceptable concentration level [/b:c8a8eb1111]in fish (EPA). (Ohio State University Extension Fact Sheet, Community Development, 700 Ackerman Road, Columbus, Ohio 43210-1578, The Invisible Environment Series, PCBs, CDFS-201-98, Joe E. Heimlich, Leader, Environmental Science Community Development)
NF is [i:c8a8eb1111]22 x[/i:c8a8eb1111] lower than allowable as safe for health by the Environmental Protection Agency. So better than health grade FO. |

WEll, I did ask, and here's the reason:
Dear J,
Many thanks for your support of iHerb. I do appreciate it very much. Natural Factors is the biggest manufacturer of supplements in Canada. They are, however, very new to the U.S. market. As a result, they are willing to work on volume discounts (typical in the U.S., but not so in Canada), and may forgo profits for the sake of market share. From the other side, CanadianVitaminshop is a company that does not discount, as long as they can.
The suggested retail price of the 120 sg is $24.95 in the U.S., which is almost as much as $34.95 Canadian offered by the Canadian Vitamin Shop.
I can assure you that what we are selling here is the same exact product they sell in Canada. Ours may be even superior as [u:12ecc02f4c][i:12ecc02f4c]we sell thousands of this product every month[/i:12ecc02f4c][/u:12ecc02f4c], and therefore the batch we sell is very fresh.
Sincerely,
(Name witheld by request.)
P.S. Every product has different labels for different countries. If that were the case for saying a product is inferior, what about Clearwater product? It, too, has a different name/label for US vs. Canada!
I hope this answers your question as to why. |

Thank you for your research.
With respect, you did it the wrong way around. Why not try asking the Vitamin shop why their product is that price in relationship to the IHerb product ?
While you are at it ask both of then the actual source of their product.
You will find this very illuminating.
