Dr. Sears states that juicing has been a failure for health because it removes the fibre content (the "control rods" of carbohydrates) of fruits and vegetables (p. 17, The Zone). However, he also states that the only form of fibre that affects the rate at which sugar is absorbed into the blood is soluble fibre (p. 18, Mastering the Zone).

Does juicing remove both the water-soluble and insoluble fibre? Am I missing another crucial detail, or am I on to something?

    Thanks,
    Michael N.

Basically, depends on the method of juicing, as to whether or not the fiber is removed. Some juicers basically retain the fiber.

But, the other problem with juicing is that the juice will plainly digest much faster than a solid carb. Faster digestion leads to the increase of blood sugar and then the increase in insulin levels. That is another reason why juicing is not a success in the zone.
