What's the most ridiculous combination of unfavorable foods you have ever eaten together, rationalizing that you're still eating "Zone" style?
I'll start this off: 3/4 oz of hot-n-spicy chicken jerky (protein) plus 1 Harry and David truffle (fat and carb.) Repeat, and repeat again. That was a major splurge day in response to a perceived crisis, and after it was all over I just had to laugh at myself!
Got to keep that sense of humor,
Kate (zoning for 2 years now) |

 Let's see, last summer we were up at our friends cabin with a large group of people. We were celebrating a child's birthday and for dessert they were eating these incredible looking brownie sundaes. So, I had my brownie--but along with some cheese. Let's just say it was alot of cheese! My friends made fun of me that weekend (still do), but the joke was on them--I was the only one who lost weighton our trip!
I've been zoning for a year now--I lost almost 50 lbs--but am on the upswing now and for a good reason, I'm pregnant with #4 and due in August! I'm still zoning, but have added more blocks like I"m supposed to. |

Hi,
Ok, this isn't something I really ate, but here's what happened.
Last summer my husband and I were visiting friends in Italy, both Zoners, in fact the husband was "Zone certified" at the seminars Barry Sears did in Italy. 8) We were discussing our favorite Zone meals, and the wife said she sometimes stuffs pepperoni with steel cut oatmeal. I just couldn't picture that at all.  She said she was planning to make pepperoni for dinner that night espscially for us, but with cheese, not oatmeal. Not wanting to offend anyone I left it at that and didn't ask any more about the oatmeal stuffed pepperoni. I was just glad we weren't going to have to eat that! I was really surprised because the wife is vegetarian and does not cook meat. And pepperoni, a favorite dish for a family who Zones?
When we returned to their home for dinner that night we were very surprised (and relieved) to find out that pepperoni was the Italian word for peppers, as in green peppers. We were served a delicious dish of baked green peppers stuffed with a basil leaf and a generous slice of scamorza (a type of smoked cheese which was somewhat simialr to mozzarella) then drizzled with olive oil.
It was only afer finding out what pepperoni really was that we told them of our shock at the thought that they'd actually stuff pepperoni with steel cut oats (and how would you stuff pepperoni with anything????????).
Sue (who obviously doesn't speak much Italian!) |

Yes, well chicken jerky is not totally unfavorable either (on the plus side it's low in fat, high in protein and it's not beef jerky!) Believe it or not, that was the least favorable thing I could lay my hands on in my time of need. Ha ha. I purposely keep a very zone friendly house (the truffles were only there because of the holidays), and the chicken jerky was supposed to be for traveling.
I'm talking a dinner of string cheese and movie popcorn, that kind of thing, Scott. If you never ever do that, then great!!
Have a great day,
Kate |

Well, I suppose you can have V-8 juice with protein powder mixed in, followed by peanut butter cups and beef jerky. Actually, I tried to put the memory of it out of my mind... -C. |

Not too keep you from putting it out of your mind (LOL) . . ...
I like V-8 juice - I do, I do, I like it plain, I like it a lot.
I do not like it with protein powder - nor do I like it with Peanut Butter.
I like my V-8 plain, I do, I do,
I also like beef jerky, tis true I do.
But I do not like them together, oh shutter! oh shutter!

 Yup, I don't go out to the movies often, but when I went to see the LotR Return of the King at 6pm a few weekends ago...that was my dinner! And I was feeling all Zoney for not having MilkDuds for dessert! :)

Hi,
Have to admit I had a less than favorable dinner last weekend. It was about 5:30 PM and I was only going to "taste" the new Ben and Jerry's flavor, strawberry cheesecake ice cream with a graham cracker swirl. Got a bit carried away, so I decided to make it dinner by "zoning" it.
Dinner turned out to be the ice cream, cottage cheese, a chunk of lite cheddar and a couplespoonfuls of peanut butter (not like I really needed more fat!).

Last week my husband (who does not follow the zone unless I cook dinner) ordered pizza. It smelled so good so I had some and because I was out of cheese I had pizza and cottage cheese. Sounds gross but at least I stayed zoned. |
