    Hi everyone,

I found a great smoothie mix at Costco that I love so far, "Yoplait Triple Berry Smoothie." Basically, they are pouches of frozen berries (strawberries, rasberries and blueberries, I think) and frozen yoplait yogurt pieces. To make a whole pouch, you add 1 cup milk and you are done. I added some cottage cheese to make it more protein, but am going a little over a 3 block meal. I really like the flavor but would love advice on how to tweak it to make it 3 blocks. I thought people might have tricks on what to substitute that still tastes good and is still a nice serving size. I would love to use the whole pouch of fruit, but that may be impossible (another alternative would be to just eat half of it and eat something else with it). I think the problem is that I want to add milk to it for consistency, but that adds carbs, too. Ingredients:

    1 pouch of mix (28 g C - 4 g fiber, 4 g P, 3 g F)
    -- 2.5 C, 1/2 P, 1 F)
    2/3 cup 2% milk (8g C, 5g P, 3 g F)
    --1 C, almost 1 P, 1 F
    1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese (4 g C, 15 g P, 3 g F)
    --1/2 C, 2 P, 1 F)

    Total: 4 C, 3.5 P, 3 F

    Thanks!

    Hi!

You’re right that it contains too much carb. You could try water instead of milk, plus increase the amount of cottage cheese for the extra P, and then add nuts or olive oil to get enough fat.

It may or may not keep you in the Zone depending on the ingredients in the yogurt pieces and the rest of the mix.

One of the best known Zone smoothies is Dr Sears' "Big Brain Shake" (protein powder, frozen mixed berries and a tablespoon of either Omega Rx or olive oil).

    Hey Allison;

I came across a great idea for a milky type cream that is almost all protein and healthy for eating with (defrosted) frozen mixed berries.

Who doesn't like some fresh blueberries in a bowl with some cream? Or even freshly sliced peaches? Winter's coming, so almost nearly as good with frozen berries - either as a desert or with breakfast.

If you put Cottage Cheese (about 1 cup of 2%) in a blender with a drop or two of Vanilla Extract (real not flavoring) and a touch (1/2 packet to 1 packet) of Stevia (or other non-carb stimulating healthy sweetner) - you get a type of healthy protein-based whipped cream like fluff that has a nice flavor and reminiscent of milk, too - without the carbs. Goes good with mixed berries.

P.S. You do not need the Vanilla nor the sweetner to get the consistency. They just help to make it taste more "cream-like" or "milk-like". You can adjust amounts to your liking.

You could also blend this together, then add your Yoplait Triple Berry. You will have the added "milk-like" taste and consistency you like, the added protein, & no additional carbs from adding milk.

If it's too thick, then add a touch of water.

I also use Yoplait triple berry smoothie mix. I add 2 scoops of protein powder and 1 cup skim milk. My husband and I split it. The package serves two. Are we balanced?

One packet of mix contains basically 4C blocks, 2 F blocks and a negligible amount of protein (http://www.yoplait.com/products_nut...Smoothie). The milk contains 1P and 1C, and it's missing F. Assuming the protein powder is Zone protein powder, or a similar one, it contains 2P and is missing F.

This gives you a total of 3P (all fat free), 5C (1.5P, 2.5C per shake). It requires adding at least 3P and 7F to the whole before splitting it. If the 3P you add is also fat free, you'd need to add at least 10 F instead of the 7F I mentioned. You wouldn't need to be that concerned with the missing C, but if you prefer to, you can add up to 1 block more C to the recipe before splitting it.
