It's an excellent idea to become vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian since I was 19 and have never looked back. It's much easier to do nowadays then it was years ago. I suggest checking out PETA and peta2 websites where you can find lots of tips on being vegetarian. if you are struggling to quit cold turkey, start by giving up the meats you like least - so if you don't like very many kinds of fish, cut out all seafood. do that for 2-3 weeks, then cut out all birds like turkey, chicken. again, do that 2-3 weeks, then cut out pork, bacon, etc.
be careful to replace the meats with vegetable proteins like beans and soy burgers and do not just overload on pasta, rice, and sweets. let me know if you need more support. my family wasn't thrilled when i first did it - they didn't understand it, but once they saw how healthy it was, they were supportive. it's been almost 15 years now.
