I've been trying to get my blocks in order but have seen traffic about a spreadsheet that is helpful with keeping a Zoner organized...my email is crr107@hotmail.com if someone could forward it to me...this site has been so helpful to me.
    Thank you,

I started the zone last year and had to bail when i took a new job and couldn't make it work. I am now back on the program....I was in the middle of creating my own spreadsheet when I saw this post. If such a thing exists, please email me as well aimeesmail@gmail.com. Thanks!

    Christina and Aimee;
I was curious about that myself. I could find a spreadsheet template in excel 2007 that seemed to work for this without making several changes. So, I used a calendar, made three additional lines (each day top to bottom) to represent P,F,C (each with their own color....P = purple, F = Fuchsia and C = cranberry red). Then I divided each day with lines (left to right) for each meal...breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. So far so good. My calendar is colorful and I can see at a glance where I missed blocks for each day. I've only done this for a few days...but hopefully by the end of the month I will have created a unique mosaic on my calendar.
    Good Luck!

I was looking for one of those myself. I did find something in the Quick Start Guide. Click on the Zone Success Journal. The only problem is, it's only for one day. I'd like something that gives a week at a time. I think Denise had a great idea. I'm going to have to do something like that.

    Good luck, All!

I'm not quite sure if this is correct as I have just started zoning properly. I tried it today and it seems a bit wrong to me for some reason.

If each meal is 3 blocks... 1 small tin of tuna in springwater plus a cucumber??? It seems a bit too little?

    Christine,
If I understand it right, it should be: 3 blocks protein, 3 blocks carbs, and 3 blocks fat for breakfast , lunch and dinner and 1 block of each for your snacks. I printed your spread sheet you gave the site to and I am going to look at it what I saw looked really helpful to me.

Spot on, Tina!! 3 of each (3P, 3C, 3F) for meals and 1 of each (1P, 1C, 1F) for each snack!

    Rachael,
Thanks, I was hoping I had it right. I am trying to get everything together now to actaully start, I had to wait til I got paid!!! And Christine Good luck to you too. Lets keep in touch, it feels wonderful to know I have people that I can talk to doing his, I do not have a really supportive family on this, my husband is a strictly meat and potatoe and bread person, so this is going to be interesting for me. But with everyones help here I am sure I can do this.

    Tina,

No worries! My boyfriend is/was a strictly meat/potatoes/bread kind of guy (and I'm convinced my Dad always will be even though the Zone would be the PERFECT way for him to eat). He's really supportive of me doing the Zone though. I always offer to make him a baked potato (since the rest of my meals are usually meat and veg anyhow) or if I'm roasting a chicken and veg I just throw in some potatoes to roast with it. Most nights he doesn't bother with the potato anymore, which completely surprised me! I don't think I'd ever get him to give up his morning toast though!!!

Not familiar with any existing Zone spreadsheet. But the easiest way I know to create and maintain your own is FitDay.com. The macronutrients are all calculated. You just click what you eat. Generates good graphs, too. Energy in, energy out, weight, measurements, etc., plus monthly calendars, a journal, etc. Online version is free, but I sprang for the $20 CD for the home version to keep my whole history.

Christine, I just found and saved that Zone Block Calculator.xls that you cited. It's superb. Thanks. The key to its usefulness is in the top left corner of each sheet: "Insert number of blocks". When you enter the number of blocks you want to eat, or have eaten, it automatically ripples through and recalculates from blocks to quantity. Neat.

    Hi Christine!

I just took a look at the spread sheed you referred to here. It does have a fair number of carb amounts that are not in agreement with the Zone Food Block lists. Since carb amounts are very improtant I would recommend using the block amounts that Dr. Sears suggests.

I am a big fan of the calorie king software from calorieking.com. Once you have calculated your block targets, this is a great tool to create and save meals. I am able to create meals a week out and plan accordingly. It has a huge database with most foods and their respective nutrient content. You can also export to excel and create a shopping list! It charts your weight & BMI progress and nutrient intake. I have tried a few Excel Sheets but this is much easier. A fantastic tool for staying in the Zone!

Before I found the zone, I signed up for myfooddiary.com tracking system and was loosing weight with it; I continue to use it as I eat the zone plan. You can enter weight tracking and body mass , notes, foods, exercise etc. It does cost monthly.
It gives you nutient break downs and signals you with a smilely or frowny face depending on how you ate for the day. When I eat in the zone, I always get complete smilely faces on myfooddiary (unless I have over-salted or such). Therefore, I feel like they are a compatible for me, and I prefer to stay with them both because I have a record from back 8 months before I started the Zone.
By using the Zone food blocks, my blood sugar has come under better control. I have certain foods that do not work well for me in the evening even if they are on the Zone, but usually following the Zone is great and tracking on My Food Diary is great. Margarey

I was able to open the "spreadsheet" in OpenOffice 2.4 (which is free) I have used other paid on-line diet sites but don't think they are anymore helpful then the free ones. just my opinion.
