Just getting started and want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. For lunch I had: 3 ounces albacore tuna, sauteed 2 c. zucchini, 1 red pepper, 1 c. mushrooms and about 1/4 c. sweet onion. 1 peach for dessert. Oh, to the veggies, I added 1 tsp. olive oil and 2 tsp. balsamic vinegar. Thanks! |

Thanks, Sue. I've printed it off and am doing well so far. I don't have a lot to lose (10-15 pounds), and I've already dropped 4.5 pounds the first few days. It hadn't budged recently, and I thought I was going to be stuck with these extra pounds forever. I do have a few questions though: 1. Are the raw vegetables not to be cooked? Or are the amounts just the pre-cooked portions to use? 2. What should the fat content be for "low fat" cheese? I've been eating mozzarella (5 g per ounce) because I have it on hand and didn't want to go to the store to get things rolling. 3. Do you by chance know how many Zone bars are in the case for $35.95 (I think that's the price)? It doesn't really say on the site ... at least I can't locate it. I'm also wondering what the ingredients are and don't see them posted. 4. You've obviously done very well. Congratulations! For the most part, do you get your carbs from fruits and vegetables or do you incorporate grains as well? 5. Would it be okay to add ground flaxmeal? A 2T serving = 4 g carbohydrate and 4 g fiber, so I'm thinking it would be counted as a half of a carb block. I think that's all the questions I have for now. Thanks for your advice! |

I can help with the bars. If you click on "learn more", you will find the nutritional information there. Each box ordered comes with 14 bars. If you choose the autoship, it reduces the price to around $28-$29. |

You're welcome Shari! 1. It's simply meant to show the amounts if you're measuring them raw. You can then either eat them raw, or cook them. 2. I find it's usually around 4 or 5 grams per ounce. 3. 14, as Cran posted. 4. Thanks! :) Mostly veggies, some berries, a small chunk of banana (about 1/4 a medium banana; 1/5 of a large one). My only grains are infrequent servings of steel cut oats (once or twice a month), Zone Cereal (about once a month, which is nont a full block of grain), a couple crumbled baked whole grain corn chips once every 2 or 3 mos., and some Zone Pasta (up to a few times a month). It works out to about 1 block of grain a week if that much, and once in a great while 2-3 blocks in a week. And that count includes the favorable oats. Basically, my grain consumption is extremely low. 5. Dr Sears perfers the fat in fish oil over the fats in flax seed. He's explained this in some detail in some of the Zone books. He's said it's fine to eat 1 T of flax seed. He doesn't advocate eating large amounts of flax. Its not necessary to count the 1T of flax seed in your blocks. It would be preferable to eat the seed whole for a couple or reasons (flax meal is ground flax seed). Have fun with the Zone! |
