I have been on the zone diet now for the last few weeks and I feel great but I have a couple of queries if anyone can help

    1) What is inflammation?
    2) If insulin causes glucose to be stored as fat and inhibits fat burning, what happens if I eat too much saturated fat in my zone diet if everything else is controlled?
3)I had 2 blood tests i the past year to test for diabetes as I showed all the symptoms, tiredness, mental dullness etc. Why arent the doctors aware of at least the possibilty of excess carbs?

Thanks, dont want to ask too much. Thank you,

Don't worry about asking too much! But, if you want to spread your topics around, then there is definitely no harm in that!

The inflammation that Sears talks about is "silent inflammation", and it is the precurser of chronic disease. While on the outside you appear healthy, inside your body is undergoing changes that will eventually lead to chronic disease. It may be evidenced by high insulin levels, high triglyceride/HDL ratio, elevated lipid panels, etc.

The doctors in healthcare today are not up to speed on nutrition. But, it depends on the doctor that you go to. I have a doctor who recognizes all of the Zone concepts, but she has never really heard of the Zone. I think doctors tend to look at most "diets" out there as fad diets. But, I think that if they took the time to research it, they may find validity in it. Like my doctor, who preaches just about everything that is in the zone, but has never even heard of it.

If you read the forums a bit more, there are some other threads going on that are discussing today's health care.

    Hi andrew!

    Welcome!

    1. This article, from the PYRAMID tab of this site, can help you to better understand inflammation:

    2. Too much saturated fat (or too much of any type of fat) in an otherwise Zone balanced diet will not allow you to remain in the Zone and will usually cause the body to store fat. Too much saturated fat will also negatively impact your cardiovascular system.

    3. One can only guess, but many doctors are not traditionally educated about nutrition other than the bare basics.

Glad to hear you're feeling better!

    Cheers!
