HI! I am having some trouble thinking of some quick and easy zone snacks. I typically have 1/2c of yogurt and 3 almonds, but does anyone else have any favourites? Thanks! |

There are lots of recipes for suggested snacks on this site. Yesterday I made Jodi's snickerdoodle muffins and they tasted really nice and I will try to flavour them with different things as well, but the main thing is they were quite moist which I found the other recipe to be dry. I often have fruit, cheese and nuts as well for a change. |

Thanks again. I was curious about the tofu snack-- how much of each ingredient do I use? I am assuming I would use 1/3tsp olive oil and 3ounces extra firm tofu, but what about the cocoa and vanilla? Thanks! |

You're welcome! You can use them to your taste. Cocoa powder is high in fiber and doesn't add much carb. I usually puree a whole tub of tofu plus the added ingredients, all at once in a food processor (that's 5 blocks if you use a firm or extra firm tofu). The longer you process it the smoother the texture will be. It's important that you use the alcohol free glycerine based flavors because they tend to give a little sweetness to it. That won't happen if you use alcohol based extracts. |

carolyn, This is about as inexpensive and convenient as it gets : Dannon "Light & Fit" Zero Fat Yogurt [ **6 oz version ] combined with [ for me ] about 1 tblsp of ground flax seeds. I don't know why but the combination of the flax's "nuttyness" and flavor with this yogurt is incredibly delicious and the nutritional balance is "right on". Talk about convenient and easy – I mix in the flax right in the container and eat ! First of all it is "Zero Fat" - so when you add in a tblsp of flax you end up adding in just about the right amount of “good fats” to “balance” the snack – I make it you end up with about 2 g of fat. It gets better yet : adding the tblsp of flaxseed adds about 1 g of protein so, when you add 1 g of Protein you end up with : Fat 2 g, Protein 6 g, and carbs 9g, "Close enough for government work to exactly one Zone Snack" [ If anal add an olive or almond on top] *Sugar 7g * As far as I can tell this is the lowest amount of SUGAR in any of the brands of “Lite” yogurt – some have double this amount. So - baddabing baddabang - you have morphed an ordinary inexpensive food item into as "balanced" for Zone purposes a quick cheap delicious nutritional snack as possible ! It is also usually the lowest priced per oz !!!!! Except for the “generic house brands” which, as usual, have hyped up the sugar content. I found a little lid that snaps right on and often I mix up a few and have them with me for emergency “Zone Snacks” when at an “UN-Zoned” event and/or "on the road for the day". I almost always have my little cooler – available anywhere that is not much bigger than a six pack of beer which it is designed to hold - and some ice – and throw a couple of these in just in case - if I end up back home and haven't eaten any I have one for desert and "snack" before bed. This doesn't happen very often because I’d prefer to eat one of these to almost anything ! If you are vexing about having to configure the cooler with ice or buy some all the time I’ve got that licked too : Put as much ice as you can in the cooler [this won’t be much ] and go off for the day. End of day put the cooler - that’s right, the entire cooler – right back in the freezer which is where I keep it. Guess what ? By the next day the exact right amount of ice is on the bottom of the cooler and because NOW it is ONE solid block – it melts much more slowly than in cube form – in other words – easily lasting all day ! I have to remember to occaisionally "change the ice" - I've "used" the same water over and over for weeks ! E.Wally ewally@verizon.net ** In another example of what a "food jungle" it is - I just realized that Dannon offers a VERY SIMILAR product - or, one that SOUNDS/APPEARS identical to the "Light and Fit" 0 Fat in SIX OUNCE CONTAINER in a smaller version - I think FOUR oz. Think it comes in an 8 pack and it is labeled "Danon Light and Fit 0 Fat" just like the 6 oz version. Problem is, in comparison to the 6 oz version the Protein is REDUCED and the Sugar and Carbohydrates are INCREASED - in other words no where near "balanced". The Sugar content alone is excessive ! |

My favorite snack is 1/4 cup cottage cheese, 1/2 cup thawed-from-frozen blueberries, and a sprinkling of sliced almonds. I pack it in the morning, and the blueberries are thawed by the time snack time rolls around. For a quick thaw, I just toss them into the microwave. |

My REAL "favorite snack" is any PIZZA form UNO's or Bertucci's, or, Pizza Hut.
"snack" as in an ENTIRE LARGE...

LOL! Yes, I remember the days when we would go out for pizza after bowling league "for a snack", and yet the 5 of us on the team could easily eat 2 large pizzas! Maybe that isn't as much as you used to eat, but the message is the same! Another fun snack idea of mine is to take some shake mix and mix it in with plain nonfat yogurt, and then supplement the fat with some peanut butter. You have to proportion it so that there is 1/2 block of shake mix and 1/2 block of yogurt, but it is delicious! |

If you are interested in using a shake mix for the snack that I mentioned, you can purchase the Zone shake mix from this site. |
