I was wondering if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction. I have been following the zone way of life for a while and for just as long have been trying to get my husband to join me...with no luck. He has had chronic sinusitis for years. It has taken a real toll on his health (not to mention the horrible, socially unacceptable snorty noises he subjests me to!). Anyway, this past weekend he finally agreed to take high dose fish oil, 9 pills on Sat, I think 8 yesterday. Well, after all my promises he would feel some improvement, he has been more miserable than ever. He has a ton more congestion and hardly slept all weekend because he had to keep blowing his nose. I feel like I let him down somehow. Help!! |

The best way for him to take the product is to ease into it. 2 days is not nearly enough time for him to start reaping the benefits. I would suggets he cuts back to taking 2 a day and slowly increase at his own level of comfort.
Thanks |

My thinking was more pgfo would be better b/c his chronic sinusitis is an inflammatory process which requires more fish oil (am I wrong in this thinking?) |

I agree with the concept of a zone diet and supplementing with fish oil to relieve the inflammation of sinusitis.
And yes you are quite right the disease has an inflammatory component.
One of the few drugs that is effective for relieving some of sinusitis symptoms is an antiinflammatory (eicosanoid inhibitor).
I would also point out that improved hygiene - effective hand cleaning and facial dips in a salt water solution or even a Grossan sinus irrigator are the most effective method of clearing up sinusitis.
The two approaches together are far more effective and likely to give you long term success.
While your sinsuses are blocked with pollutants, allergens and dried mucous you will find it almost impossible to overcome this problem.
It's important to note that having sinusitis can result in more frequent colds and influenza - both viruses that inhibit the production of good eicosanoids.
Hence the value of getting those sinuses clear.
For a facial dip basically you add a tablespoon of salt to a bowel of warm water (40 degrees celcius) put your face in the water and blow bubbles through your nose.
If your nostrils are blocked you close one nostril with the handle of a clean kitchen utensil and draw water up the other nostril repeatedly and very gently sucking and blowing with your nose till the nostril is clear.
You should perform a facial dip twice a day - in the morning and evening and as often as you need to keep your sinuses clean.
For more information you can visit www.geocities.com/glorioushealth and read the free notes on advanced hygiene.
I do have exstensive notes on sinusitis but haven't finished converting them to electronic form yet.
I hope this helps though.
