After much research and reading on this and other forums, I've decided to purchase some PGFO. My internist, however, cautioned against taking more than 3g per day. Is it unhealthy to take too much(more than the 3g recommended), and other than the aa:epa lab test, how does one know if she is taking too much?
Thanks for the help |

So you think your internist knows better than DR. Sears ??
Please present your facts
in the meantime 3 caps is not too bad. ONLY AA:EPA test can get this right The blood does not lie !

I'm not saying she knows better, she is basing her recommendations from AHA guidelines, I guess, and hasn't seen the research on higher doses. My question is , is there any harm in taking a high dose.

All the research I have read indicated that the only negitive effect of high doses is mild diarrhoe

Sorry, if I appeared snippy
This is a public forum, I invite ANYBODY (Including your internist) to state ANY negitive effects of taking the sorts of doses of PGFO that Dr. Sears recommends.

Here is a new person to the ZONE. And you appear to have attacked her right off. She was new, had conflicting information and was asking for clarification. Why come across challenging (Attacking) her? She is NOT the one who said that high doses were harmful. She had conflicting information and was merely asking for information. |

IMO I believe WL and New2Zone had sorted their differences. WL had already apologized to New2Zone for her perceived snippy remark.

That information is far from conflicting. Sears himself states in Omega Rx Zone (p.84) that studies were done with 3 grams of fish oil with the FDA; however, we are now talking pharmaceutical grade fish oil which is tested as to its purity and potency. 3 grams of fish oil in an 18:12 ratio would only provide 300 mg. of Omega 3-s per capsule while 1 gram of PGFO in a 40:20 ratio provides 600 mg. of Omega 3-s.
Sears goes on to say that if you use health-food-grade fish oils, not to consume more than 3-4 grams per day.

I must agree with WL. The conflicting information is coming from an internist that has not done her research with respect to PGFO and likely has not even read the Zone.
So Jay, I think you should tone it down yourself and take any unresolved matters with WL off-line. It is detrimental to these forums. |
