    hi anyone

I am not new to the zone but follow it as best i can using the hand /eye method and dont go into the siences of it and enjoy it tremendoulsy,i mix up foods to what i prefer and tend to plan ahead my meals as i work full-time.Any way i have a ? for any one which may sound a little silly but here goes ....... About 7 years years ago i bought my very first ZONE book called THE 7 DAY ZONE DIET(thats how i first got into the zone)and 1 of the recipes in there is called OLD FASHIONED OATMEAL ,i have made this breakfast many times and it is one of my favourites, the recipe calls for you to use 2/3rds steel cut oats and 3 cups water and make up following the given recipe, and then have this with everything else on the menu with it.This when cooked is a very large amount of cereal to eat,so i tend to split it up into 3 portions, but i dont know if i am supposed to eat all of it or do as i have been doing and split it up ??? CAN ANY ONE HELP ME OUT HERE ????I also make up big batches and put in the freezer as it takes a long time to cook, and when i want it ,i just thaw out and pop into the microwave to heat up.
    thanks

so when you make the oatmeal is that supposed to yield you how many blocks of carbs, protein and fat??? 3??? ... If it yields you 3 blocks and the oatmeal is all youre eating for breakfast, then you shoudl eat the whole thing because you need a 3 block breakfast... but if you want to eat less blocks for breakfast you can divide it up into blocks.
If your oatmeal yields you only one block then that means to still have to eat the whole thing and then add two more blocks for breakfast (that is if youre eating a 3 block breakfast)

Does that make sense to you?

    Hi Lynn,
When you're using steel cut oats, 1/3 of a cup of oats cooked according to package directions is 1 block, or 1 cup of cooked oats is 3 blocks. If you want to eat apple sauce just have 2/3 of a cup of cooked oats and add 1 block of the apple sauce.

There used to be a section n DrSears.com which contined corrections to his book. That recipe was one of the corrections. It was supposed to say 2/3 cup cooked oats. You can also check with the Zone Food Block list whenever you question amounts. 1/3 cup of cooked steel cut oats is equal to 1 carb block.

You're welcome! If you're getting a new Zone book, I'd highly suggest reading "The Anti-Inflammation Zone".

I agree, I find that I usually combine fractions of blocks to make my meals.  this way I am eating 5 cups of raw spinach (1/4 block of Carb), with a bunch of other vegetables instead of 20 cups of spinach by itself...which can really get uninspiring right away.
