I have a lot of health issues that have caused me to move towards a vegetarian/raw diet. But I've also got so many food sensitivies I'm struggling getting balanced Zone meals. The biggest is wheat (so no breads, pasta etc) but I also have to avoid oats, all yeasts (brewers and bakers) so vinegars are out (I use lemon on salads) - also no peanuts, most shellfish, sugar (I use stevia) and amaranth. I've increased grains which is not good according to the Zone, and yes, my weight went back up. I eat a lot of veggie soups with soy but with summer coming, hot food is not my choice. I'm so confused. Is there a Zone book that can help?

    Hi Valerie!

I avoid most all the foods you mentioned, with the exception of shellfish, a little bit of vinegar and a little steel cut oats infrequently. It doesn't present a problem in regard to the Zone diet. I'd say the raw diet aspect would be the greater difficulty. I notice you mention eating hot soup. I assume that would meean you're not on a totally raw diet, unless you meant it's heated only to the acceptable temp to still be considered "raw". that would make things easier because it would be less limiting overall. "The Soy Zone" by Barry Sears, is an excellent book for vegetarians in the Zone. I'll be glad to help if you have questions.
