It's been awhile since I read the books but my impression of this diet plan is similar to this post: http://www.zonediet.com/RESOURCES/F...d/8/postid /22954/view/topic/Default.aspx It's a reply to a post titled, "Seems like so much food". There is a number at the top of the page for help. I'd call. Tom |

Richard, I am starting week 5 and it gets SOOOO much easier. The first week I was starving and all I thought about was food. Give your body a chance to "detox" from the sugar and complex carbs, and then you will start to feel great, look great, and not just want to be in the zone, but live the zone lifestyle. The first week I ate the same things... the meals that filled me up the most. Scrambled egg breakfast sandwich (made with egg substitute in a pita pocket). Cauliflower and Broccoli because it seemed like a lot. Good luck and keep us posted. IT IS WORTH IT! |

Richard, are you hanging in there?
Try an extra fat block at each meal first couple of days. That would be macademian nuts, almonds, olives, avocado.
At that point is mind over matter. Every day you put under your belt it will get better. |

I wasn't starving that first day, but I had a horrific headache from not having any caffeine. Load up on a veggie that you like, or have a big salad. It will take a little while for those (carb induced) cravings to subside. Just hang in there. I'm on Day 8, and a homemade Paula Deen dessert recipe in the office didn't even tempt me yesterday. |

Rich, Give it a couple more days. Studies have shown that insulin will lower into the Zone range with only 4 days of consecutively eating Zone balanced meals and snacks. Also, If you're making a few big newbie errors here and there, it could take a bit longer than 4 days. I'll be happy to help. Could you post a little more detail? Would need to know your LBM, type and amount of exercise you perform in one week, and a sample day of your meals and snacks including timing and amounts of specific foods. Stay with it, you'll get there, and it'll be well worth it! |

Hello Paul, do you soak the macadamia nuts? Do you know if macadamia nuts have protein inhibitors? |

I've been in the Zone for over ten years and am currently monitoring the efforts of a woman with 50 lbs to lose. It has been a little over a month and she has lost more than ten pounds but her biggest complaint is that there is way too much food to eat. We are constantly searching for ways to decrease the volume of food for her. If you choose high-volume, low-glycemic vegetables like cabbage, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, etc., you may have trouble finishing all that you must eat. Is there anyone familiar and successful with the diet who can review your Food Log to be sure you're doing it right? Even my husband (at 6'2 and over 200 lbs when we started) had a lot of trouble in the beginning eating all the food I prepared for him.. Are you sure you're eating enough blocks each day? Just for your encouragement, my husband lost 40 lbs, keeps his lbm at about 15% and I lost 22 lbs, gained some lbm and have maintained my weight within 5 pounds either way for all those ten years. Good luck. |

Karen: did you and your husband consume mostly low glycemic vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower as your source of carbs? |

HEy Richard, If you are still hungry.. maybe you should eat more low glycemic vegetables.. The portions are big so they will most def fill you up.. stay away form unfavorable carbs... the portions are much smaller and you won't get the "full" feeling after youre done eating... Best luck! |

Richard, I have had the hunger problem in the past, too. I was reading through this thread, with others recommending more low glycemic veggies. However, I have found that the low glycemic veggies don't keep my hunger at bay. So, what works for me is to keep at least 1/4 of my carbs coming from moderate density sources, like beans. Also, it does help to up the fat a bit, too. |
