Dr. Sears says 1200 and I think it's fine. If you are NOW overweight, esp. obese, I'd cut back the calories gradually. Although, I've read a book by another doctor who didn't cut his patient's calories down gradually. I am fairly thin and have a body fat % of 21. I thought I read in his Anti-aging book thyat 17% is best. THAT IS gonna be hard to accomplish!

I think you saw 16% is for males, higher for females, unless you are trying for ELITE Athlete!
.
FEMALES > Average > 25% to 31%
MALES > Average > 18% to 24%
.
FEMALES > Fitness > 21% to 24%
MALES > Fitness > 14% to 17%
.
FEMALES > Athlete > 14% to 20%
MALES > Athlete > 6% to 13%

If you go on a calorie restriction diet, start slow to avoid hypoglycemia...cut back calories gradually. And research ANDI/nutrient density to ensure that you get all the good stuff you need.

I've gotta look it up. I do eat over 1200 calories, prob. closer to 1600. And I need to start exercising again. I wanna be a bit thinner no mattr what Sears says, but it is nice that he would think so, too.

Arachidonic acid is only in animal products, including fish, eggs, and dairy. Eggs, without the yolk, only offer protein, little else. The yolk is high in AA. Non-fat dairy has almost no fat, so almost no AA. Greek yogurt has become my best buddy and can help prevent cancer supposedly. I also eat fish, but haven't eaten meat/chicken since 16, over 25 yrs ago. I beleive the reason Sears doesn't hit this very important point home more often is that people get very defensive when you mess with their tradition of eating meat. The study done in China 'proved' that eating animal products leads to cancer...they just never mentioned omega-6's or AA. Today, it is hard to get omega-3's from foods. I read it is found in wild foods, so eating wild animals should be healthier than eating domesticated.

Dr. Sears does suggest eating grass-fed meat over regular store-bought (Grain-fed).
Which i think is another way of stating your "wild" vs. "domesticated".
So, yes he does mention that grass-fed (wild) has a better AA/Omega-6/Omega-3 ratio/numbers than commercial meat.

The Zone fits the bill for all the major concerns mentioned here. It's calorie restricted, it's nutrient rich, it prevents hypoglycemia, and it's low in AA.

Anti-Aging:
Sears said in his Anti-Aging book that diet is far more important than exercising. Hope he's right because I still fail to exercise enough. He said that the duration of low-impact exercise, such as walking fairly quickly for 45 min to an hour, is as beneficial, if not more so, than jogging/running. The high-intensity exercises cause too many free-radicals to form. I can tell you that of all of the dozen or so anti-aging/centenarian books that I've read, this seems to be the case. Those who live to 100 have walking a LOT LOT their whole life, often on steep terrain.

What you are finding fits with Mark Sisson and the Paleo point of view for exeercising.
Just, like our ancestors, keep moving.
Occasionally they sprinted intervals, as in chasing a prey for food, stopping, resting, waiting, and then sprinting again.
And once in a while they lifted heavy things, moved rocks or logs, etc.
So, incorporating that into your lifestyle is a good all-around form of exercise.
Move frequently, almost daily: walking, bicycle rides, etc. NOT running or endless hours on a treadmill like some hamster in a cage.
Once a week or so, engaging in interval sprinting or interval movement all out with rest for short period.
And finally, once a week or maybe twice a week, engage in heavy lifting for 30 - 45 minutes, not hours,
and certainly not day after day. Besides, muscles need rest of at least a day after strenuous exercise.
Just my odd three cents worth ...

Being always happy is one secret of anti-aging, we should avoid being always stressed and depressed, but of course we need to eat good and healthy foods.

If we have a healthy lifestyle, we can somehow have an assurance we can live a good and longer life.
