Hi Everyone, Thought I'd share one of my favorite breakfasts with you. I call it yellow, but really, it turns kind of green when you add the berries. Cheers! Sue’s Yellow Oat Breakfast Stir generous amounts of turmeric and cinnamon, and 3 blocks of vanilla flavored protein powder into 1 block cooked steel cut oats, adding a little water if needed for better consistency. Top with 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil, 3 blocks almond butter, 1 block blueberries and a splash of soy milk (I used chocolate soy milk today). I don’t measure the 2 spices; I probably use about ½ tsp plus of turmeric, and a lot of cinnamon. This is a 3P, 2C, 3F meal. My usual Zone balance is 1 C block less than the average. You can adjust the amounts of oats and blueberries to suit your C needs. |

Sounds good to me.
I tried 3 blocks Oatmeal, 1 block cottage cheese, 3 blocks chocolate protein powder, 3 blocks almond or peanut butter. After it is hot I top it with 1 block sliced frozen strawberries. The other day I tried with the vanilla protein powder but I don't care for the brand I have but hate to waste it. |

Matt, here's a thought. Use a tablespoon of cocoa powder to eachscoop of that vanilla pp. It might do a good job of hiding the taste. Cocoa powder is usually high fiber, so there's little insulin stimulating C in it. |

Sue, This sounds like a good recipe. I will try it except for the soy. Everyone has horrid reactions to soy in my family. Gas, stomach pain, diahrea, bloating. I just tried to use soy again the other day and got a terrible stomach ache and hot flashes. Soy blocks the absorption of my bio-identical hormones that I take. A few days of that and I feel really bad. But each to his own. Funny how different things affect different people. If I eat a high carb meal I will be awakened in the wee hours of the morning with ravenous hunger. I have even had to get up for a glass of milk in order to get back to sleep because the hunger is actually painful and will not allow sleep. The same thing can happen if I stay up really late, then I guess my body makes almost no leptin (the hormone that suppresses appetite) so my appetite is horrible and painful after only a few hours of sleep and I have to get up to eat some cheese or have some other form of protein to get back to sleep. I think cortisol gets high too if you stay up late and that adds to appetite. I am learning so much and being good for a change. Maybe I will see those pounds slide off faster! Actually I have never experienced a stuck scale while healthy and obedient to the principals of the Zone or other diets that copy it. Joanne |
