I know, I know, coffee is not recommended. But does anyone know if a person were to mix coffee and protein powder, would there be an adverse effect on the protein powder? Let's just say, a person needs his/her coffee, but also needs the protein--I would like (oops, "they") would like to just throw the powder in and call it good.

Okay, okay, it's me who needs the coffee. I would like to add at this time that I have been losing weight and fat but do realize that I may need to give up the coffee at some point.

    "they", lol!

I don't know the answer, but hey, I say if you're going to drink coffee, you might as well enjoy it and not wreck it by mixing protein powder into it.

(Easy for me to say. I've never been a coffee drinker!)

Thanks for the reply! Here's a little more info. I've been having an iced sugar-free nonfat latte with some almonds for years as a little 2 block "smeal". Well, I just actually measured it out last weekend and realized with the ice and such that there is only about 1.5 blocks (P&C) of milk in there and I don't really want to have 1/4 oz. beef jerky, or 1/2 a string cheese, etc. I guess I could just make up that .5 block at the next meal? Any ideas?

You're welcome. The way I make up when something falls short is with a piece of a Zone bar. That would go better with a latte than anthing else I can think of.

    Christina,

    BTW, I LOVED your post--LOL!

I am a coffee drinker. However, I have never tried mixing shake mix into the coffee. But, with your particular drink, I wonder if it could work?

Another option is to just call it what it is--a 1.5 block snack instead of trying to make it into a 2 block snack. Then, you can apply the missing 0.5 block to another snack along the course of the day.

Are you making this yourself? If so, is it possible to just add a bit more milk to round it out? Or, have them make a larger size at the coffee shop?

Good luck with that, and let us know how it comes out!

Hi there! I actually tried the latte' with the protein powder for "quality control" this afternoon and it wasn't bad at all. I used the plain protein powder, but the vanilla shake is a great idea. I'll try that tomorrow!

I do make them at home and I could add more milk but I'm already using my biggest travel mug and if I add more milk the coffee taste would be too weak for me. What can I say? I'm from Seattle and I like coffee.

My name is Christina, and I like coffee.

    LOL!

I bet that if the protein powder went well in the coffee, then I think that the vanilla shake will work well too!

I used to be a coffee-holic! Now, all I drink is decaf. But, I am the one in the Starbucks ordering a decaf latte! I still love the robust flavor, and I KWYM about the additional milk "drowning" the coffee taste.

    Another Perspective:
I drink a one block Latte.
    As i understnd it:
Kirkland Vanilla Soy 1cup is a perfect one block snack.
Grams = 7-protein, 9-Carbs and 3.5-Fat. according to the carton.

So i order a 16oz iced vanilla Soy latte w/ sugar free whatever or sometimes no added sweetner. With the ice they get a full cup of soy in the 16oz glass.
This way i do not have to add protein.

I do add protein to my Strawberry-Blueberry smoothie which is a 3-block snmeal.

I think we can get too hung up sometimes on being exact. If you are in the Zone and you are not hungry or insulin is not spiking you should be ok plus or minus 1/2 block. ???

I LOVE coffee but caffeine is NOT my friend. I discovered Teechino about 18 months ago and just love it. It's one of the best coffee substitutes I've ever found.

I also cold brew decaf because regular brewing gives me major heartburn. Cold brewing results in a smoother cup and way less caffeine even from decaf.

Now, those are 2 things I have never heard of...Teechino and cold brewing!

What is Teechino, and where do you find it?

I have a friend who loves coffee (but can only drink decaf) and has recently stopped drinking it because of the heartburn. I will have to suggest cold brewing to her. How you do you that? Is it a different kind of machine?

Teeccino is an herbal tea. You can read more about it here:

thanks Sue! I don't get back here often enough.

cold brewing doesn't take machinery, just a good filter system. I bought mine from Amazon after trying it out with one of those reusable filters. Basically it's like sun tea. You steep a pound of ground coffee in 9 cups of water for 12 hours then strain it into a jar. I've found that using my jigger (since I don't drink alcohol much it's a better use for it lol) to measure out the concentrate works best for me. I use the single shot then flip it to the 1.5 shots. fill my mug with cold water and zap in the microwave until it's hot. YUM! The concentrate from a pound of coffee usually lasts me over a week unless hubby gets into it as well.

The system I got cost (I think) $20 and it was worth it once I decided this was how i wanted to brew my decaf.

We went to Disney World in December and I'm pretty sure that's how they do the coffee there at all the eating places. I saw a box on the counter that was labeled Nestle coffee concentrate. It was very good and always fresh. You don't have the pot sitting around with the brewed coffee sitting in it getting rank from the heat.
