I'm obsessed with chocolate. Chocolate anything. And I never get tired of chocolate. I could eat chocolate all day and never get an upset stomach. About the only thing it occassionally does is give me heartburn..and thats typically only after eating M&M's. I feel like this is truly an addiction such as smoking or alcohol. I can't just have a little..because the minute I have a little I want more. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Stopping eating chocolate ould be the obvious answer but its never quite that easy.

Hello, my name is Jill, and I'm a chocolate addict. I found my chocolate cravings went [b:7b0dffd303]way[/b:7b0dffd303] down on the Zone...are you currently following the Zone way of eating? I ate one chocolate-peanut-butter Balance Bar each day, and that took care of it!

I know what you mean. I've been Zoning for three years and haven't binged or purged for that time. I'm also maintaining a 30lb wt loss. I love the Zone but I can't eat any of the pseudo deserts or bars because I'm a true food/sugar addict. I'm addicted to form as well as content. Pam (also a member here) and I (JO) have another loop for those that need extra support with the Zone diet as it applies to sugar and food addiction and eating disorders. Please join us at www.zonedietforfoodaddicts@yahoogroups.com We commit our daily food plan to the loop and then experience the recovery and freedom from food obsession. I love this forum too and it all works together. Love, Jo in SF

Heh..we should start a Chocoholics anonymous. I'm just starting the Zone again so I'm hopeful it will curb my chocolate cravings. I can eat the bars occassionally but it just starts the cycle of wanting more chocolate so I usually stay away from them (like what Jo said). I've started eating GeniSoy bars instead, they are very good and are relatively balanced - and have a variety of flavors that don't contain chocolate. They work nicely as snacks from what I've found (tho I'm not sure if they are 40/30/30 or not) Jo, do you have to be a registered Yahoo user to join in the Yahoo Group? I really don't want to get a Yahoo account but I will if I have to. If I have people who are relying on me to stick to my word then I'm very good at keeping it. My biggest problem is when I don't think anyone notices or cares one way or the other.

I'm sure you'll find that the Zone can be friendly to such cravings. The Zone is not about denial or deprivation; it's about balance. If you count your carb blocks, you can allow a taste of chocolate as a "dessert". Remember to eat sweets after eating your protein and fat, and to keep portions very small. My chocolate craving is easily satisfied by a couple of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts or almonds.

Yes, I do think you need a Yahoo account, but you don't have to use the email and it's free. There are lots of good forumes in Yahoogroups.

Hi, My name is Ronica and I am also a chocoholic. At times it is not too much of a problem, but others (depending on my hormonal state--yes I am female and they change weekly!) it is nearly impossible to resist! Here's a trick that works (fairly well) for me. When I absolutely need it, I will buy one piece (like one little Lindt truffle or one Ghirardelli square) and I make sure it's good chocolate--no Hershey's kisses-- because the richer the cocoa flavor, the more satisfying. Then, I don't allow myself to eat it until I am at home, where there is no more temptation, and I follow it with a piece of salty cheese and a glass of water. (I know it should be a low fat cheese, but a cheddar stick seems to work the best for me in halting the choco-mania.) That way, I am balancing it with protein and fat, and the high flavor of the salty cheddar seems to put the kibash on my choco-need. When I follow it with a low-density carb rich meal, I seem to be fine. (Balanced, of course.) I can't speak for now (HMO changed my meds, so I am pimply and choco-nuts right now), but usually this works for me. My first few months in the Zone, I did find I was more chocolate crazed, but it did subside after a while. Now I find it much easier to resist, although I occasionally have slips, but I will wait for premium product, and won't make an idiot of myself for grainy, waxy, sugar-loaded "treats". Good luck--hope this helps. :) Ronica

I think what I'm going to try once I get fully in the zone (still trying to put meals together and buy the food and brush up by reading the books) I'm going to make the Zone fudge (Anne Maries recipe) and use it as my one block snack in the evening. That way I won't have eaten chocolate all day and I can reward myself with a Zone friendly chocolate snack in the evening (course I won't do it every evening, but if I've had a very strong urge that day then it will be a treat of sorts) Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions on this approach? I think it will work nicely but I'm open to hearing others inputs as well.
