Is there an average number for how many calories a woman burns per day (minus exercise)? I know this is a very general question but I wanted to try to figure out how many calories I need daily - I am 5'8' and weigh 125 lbs. (also, I do 40 minutes aerobics every day and weight train 3-5 days per week). Thanks for any help.

 I love these emoticons!! I have access to a fitness database. Average calories burned (at rest) in a day depends on your age. This DOES NOT take into account any type of activity. But here is a sampling: At 5'8", 125lbs, for women: Age 20 -- 1420 Age 30 -- 1377 Age 40 -- 1334 Hope that helps.

I don't know if it's 100% accurate, but fitdayonline.com has some criteria you enter (age, height, weight, activity level) plus you can add daily activities (and it's pretty specific--even includes bedroom romps!) to figure out your calories burned per day. You can enter your foods as well and it will break things into percentages, show you nutrition goals, calories, % protein, fat, carbs, etc.--even the poly, saturated and monounsat fats. I use it and it works fairly well. It's nice to see when you are doing well, and you can track your progress over time. It's free, otherwise, I wouldn't use it. I can't vouch for the accuracy of it, but it seems pretty decent. For me, it works as more of a boost than a detriment. Although I feel like I am eating a ton, I can see that my % are in the Zone (proof beyond how I feel) and that my calories are still quite low. It's exciting to see hard evidence that you are burning calories even when you don't feel deprived! It was my anniversary last night, and I admit we overindulged a bit at dinner, but even so--I could see that I didn't stray too terribly far and still burned more calories than I consumed yesterday. Very uplifting! Just a tool that may help you--it does for me. Ronica :D

Oops. I guess once you are a member, you get the fitdayonline.com website. I just pasted out of my browser. But Google can always find it. :) Keep in mind, though, that this site doesn't count net carbs (-fiber) and counts all protein in all veggies (even when inaccessible according to Dr. S). As long as my ranges are approximate and I feel in the Zone, I know I am doing alright. enjoy!
