I had a chance to look at this book and am really impressed, too. Can't wait to get my own copy. It's not technical (I think she said if you want technical, get Barry's other books) and I think it'll reach a different audience - as well as give us Zoners another batch of great recipes! I think as part of my New Year's cleaning spree, I'm going to Zone a few favorite recipes out of my old cookbooks and toss most of them and put the Zone books on the shelf in their place  Happy New Year (and great job Lynn!) I also picked up a copy of this book and am quite excited to get a start on some of these new and fantastic looking recipes! :) Now if only I can figure out how to change the portion to 1 three block meal instead of 4 Four block meals, and still have the proper consistencies! Makes me wish I paid more attention during math class... -Susan :D

You can make the recipes for 2 four block meals, adding an extra block of protein, and then splitting the finished product into 3 three block meals. The carbs and fat will be close enough (2 2/3 C blocks in each meal). You can make the recipes for 4 four block meals and then split the finished product into 5 meals . Each will be a 3 1/5 block meal, close enough. Leftovers can be frozen to have a quick meal on hand. Hope this helps! :D Sue

    Susan,
Now if only I can figure out how to change the portion to 1 three block meal instead of 4 Four block meals, and still have the proper consistencies!
Sue's (slknorr) tip about setting aside 1/4 of a four block meal for a snack later has worked well for me. Thanks Sue, you suggested this to me a couple of months ago. I don't use any sugar or sugar substitute at all because I feel WAY better if I don't, so without bars, I'm always looking for snacks. And if the recipe if for more than a single 3 block serving --I live alone and just cook for myself-- I make it up for as much as it calls for -- this is so much easier and then I measure out the servings that are appropriate for me and put them in those little semi-disposable plastic containers and then I almost always have a quick meal frozen and waiting for me when I'm late or don't want to cook. As Sue also said, if it comes out really close, I ignore a little variation -- like your example of 4 four block meals would total 16 blocks, so I'd just divide that into 5 three block meals, each one would be a tiny bit big. I've been at this for 3 months now and it's definitely getting easier to work with. I figure learning the system is a great investment of my time. Eve

thanks to both of you for your tips!! Feel a bit silly now not thinking of that myself  I've actually been on the zone since last summer and have really been enjoying it, and have also enjoyed losing some weight too (25 lbs). I find that it has really made me enjoy cooking more, and it is very flexible. side note: those 4-4 block meal menus really put into perspective just how many favourable carbohydrates we need to be eating!! :D again thank you both!!

Robbin[/quote:5201fa0c40] That's good to know. I just ran into not less than three people this weekend - all of whom were impressed at my weight loss and general health - but all apologized for starting the South Beach diet instead! One of these, I gave the couple a copy of AWitZ. (I purchase a couple every so often just to give away.) She said that the ZONE was too much reading and too technical. She said she liked the South Beach because it is only this thick (two fingers 1/4 in apart), and the reading is simple, and the rest is all meal suggestions and recipes. She said that once she gets her weight jump-started she will then consider going to the ZONE. So, if ZONE Meals in Seconds has gotten rid of a lot of the detail and technical stuff, I can't wiat for it to come out in paperback so I can purchase several copies of it to give away, instead. BUT, one has to wait at least a year in hardback - before the publisjer will release a paperback version. It's a shame that Dr. Sears doesn't have a short pamphlet that we could pick up a few copies to give away- instead! P.S.> From their descriptions - it sounds like the South Beach is just Atkins ??? (All protein you want, low carbs - being no sugars but vegetables- low Glycemic load.)

I know, I have two friends on South Beach now - I don't know what book your friend has unless there is a new SB out that is paperback... The book my friends have is a hardback that's well over an inch thick (although it is rather large print ;-) It looks like South Beach is the modified Atkins. It's like people think they MUST have to suffer some up front to get jump started in the "indoctrination" phase. I tell them all about the studies, but they seem to have to learn themselves. One friend here at work FINALLY (after a year of messing with health problems, and no less than 3 of us Zoners within spitting distance of her office!) gave in and bought the book and is using the eyeball method. Maybe you could rip out the middle few chapters with the menus for the week, staple on the block tables at the back and make AWITZ only 1/4" thick for them! You can lead a horse to water....
