Hi all! My homeopath thinks I have fibromyalgia and recommended the Anti-Infammation Zone. So I've been reading the book and now checking out the website and I know the block system is supposed to be easier, but I just can't wrap my brain around it ... maybe it's "fibrofog" LOL. So here's my question, if I design meals that are 21 g Protein, 27 g "net" carbs, and 4.5 g fat, is that being "in the zone?" I have been keeping track of everything I'm eating with complete nutritional counts, with a daily ratio of P, C, F in mind. Although the zone ratio is different, it won't be too hard to convert (I think), I just need to know if this is right. thanks! nan |

Hi Nancy, Counting grams is fine. But, if you use one of those online counters, it will count everything. And, you really don't want to include vegetable protein, as that will skew your results. Also, when you count grams, you will need to count fat as 9 grams. That is because in the blocks, there is assumed to be 1.5 grams of fat in the protein block. So, if you add the protein from the fat to the fat grams, that brings up the total to 3 grams per block, or 9 grams per meal. Let me know if that is confusing (not sure I explained that clearly!) |

Thanks Cranberry - that helps! It also makes my breakfast tastier ... just added more almonds :)
Also, didn't know that about vegetable protein, so now I have more questions -
I LOVE Fiber One cereal. It has 60 calories, 1 fat, 25 carbs (14 fiber), and 2 protein. So I look at the ingredients and there's nothing there that looks like animal/dairy protein, so I don't count that protein at all, right?
And with veggies and fruits, the only thing I need to care about is carbs - and not eating those that are listed as "unfavorable choices."
And do calories matter? If what I just ate for breakfast is any indication, I can't imagine calories getting out of hand when your counting carbs and fat, but maybe I just haven't gotten creative enough LOL
have a great week and thanks for your help! nan |

Hi Nan, You are right, you would not count the extra protein in the Fiber 1 cereal, unless it comes from soy. But, even 2 grams is not a lot (when you need 21). Incidently, just remember that this cereal is not a favorable carb. But, with all that fiber, that serving size would only count for 11 of your 27 carbs, 40% of your carbs coming from unfavorable source. Just make sure you are getting some favorable carbs in there, too! You probably won't have to worry too much about calories as long as you are counting grams. But, if it is your preference to keep track, there is no harm in doing so! |
