I noticed that in a question to Dr Sears someone asked whether the zone would be helpful for cystitis. I used to get cystitis a couple of times a year or so, and since I have been following the zone way of eating (14 months now) I have not had it at all. It could be just cooincidental of course. I was wondering what the experiences have been of other cystitis sufferers who are in the zone. (I haven't had any thrush in that time either). With apologies to the men for the girls talk. Sunshower

yes--i have had lifelong problems with cystitis and had reflux to the kidneys as a child. have been in agony many times with bladder over past 10 years, and both kidneys eventually got involved too. urine always tests negative for infection but antibiotics worked to treat it. i searched far and wide to find a way to take care of the problem without antibiotics. unfortunately i stumbled onto vegetarian ideas first and so my dietary strategy was to always try cutting out foods--meat, dairy, caffeine, fat etc, and the prob only seemed to get worse. went to several doctors who shrugged and said basically that if the antibiotics worked, then just keep taking them. once i found the zone the problem (with bladder and kidneys) resolved very quickly. however, i have been off of the zone for about 5 years as i was trying to get pregnant (and the 1995 zone book that i had read said that the zone diet was not good for fertility) i have recently come back to the zone diet because both kidneys have felt swollen and antibiotics only took the problem away partially or for a few days. am making much slower progress with it this time. i think this is because i am sleep deprived and don't have much time to exericise (busy with our baby!) i dropped all fruit and had all carbs from very low density veggies for about 5 days and that seemed to make the difference. today is my first drugfree symptomfree day in 4 months yahoo. another friend of a friend who is pregnant has found that she has gestational diabetes--the symptom that tipped them off was repeat urinary tract infections. so there is another blood sugar, insulin, uti connection.
